I get it. I finally get it. Chap 6

    BACK IN WEST HOLLYWOOD

Tina gets out of her car and walks into the office.

Hello. My name is Tina Kennard. I have an appointment.

Oh yes, Mr Mason is expecting you. Please go right ahead to the office on your right. The receptionist informs her.

Tina walks in the office and straight to the man behind the table. The man extends his hand and introduces himself.

Good morning, Ms Kennard. I am Raymond Mason. I am Bette Porters attorney. Thank you for taking the time to stop by this morning. Please sit down.

Youre welcome but Im not quite sure I am here. Tina questions.

Ms Porter has instructed me to sell some of her collections of painting. Im sorry I meant your paintings. I need access to your house so that I can get it appraised as soon as possible. Ive already have a few buyers lined up but I need to make sure I am asking for the correct price. When is a good time for me to come by?

Im sorry, I didnt know Bette wanted to sell any of her paintings. She didnt mention it to me and I havent seen or spoken with her for the past week. When did she ask you to do this.

Almost a week ago. She called me early in the morning and gave me specific instructions. If you need written confirmation from her I will arrange that. Mr Mason offers.

Oh so you know where she is and how to get a hold of her? Tina asked.

No, I dont. All she said is she will contact me at a later time. She was very vague yet very specific about what she wants done.

No, I dont need a letter. I believe you. Why dont you stop by tonight after 7pm? I should be home by then. If something changes please call me on my cell. Also if you hear from Bette, could you please ask her to call me or her sister, Kit. We are all very worried about her and we just want to make sure she is ok. Well, if that is all you need from me, I better get going. I will see you tonight then. Thank you, Mr Mason.

Ill see you tonight, Ms Kennard. Ill let Bette know if I hear from her. Thank you, again. Have a good day.

Why would Bette want to sell any of her collections? She is so proud of them. Does she need the money? If she does, for what? God, Bette, why didnt you just give me a chance to talk to you before you left? I wish you gave us a chance to talk. The same chance I refused to give you months ago. I am so sorry Bette. Please wherever you are, call and let us know you are ok. Please come back so we can talk and maybe move on. I didnt want to admit it before but I need you to be here. To help me raise our daughter. Did you hear me Bette? Our daughter. We need youTina pleads to the sky.

    BACK IN FLORIDA

So Dran, do I add your name to the door or not? Lexa calmly pleads to Bette.

I will take you up on your offer but you dont have to add my name on the door since its just a temporary arrangement. I really dont know how I will stay so its just keep things the way things are in your gallery. Reluctantly Bette accepts.

Wonderful, Dran. I am so glad. I promise you, you will not regret it. St Augustine has a way of healing even the most broken hearted soul on earth. Just dont give up and give yourself a chance. Now here are the addresses of the apartments I own. Pick which ever one you like and just let me know. Most of the apartments are furnished so you wont have to worry about getting any furniture.

Actually I dont need to look at any of them. Just tell me which one is the closest to the gallery and Ill take that one. Bette asked.

Ah you dont like to commute? Well the closest one is the first one on the list. The apartment is only around the corner from the gallery and it is also furnished. Let me know if you want to buy a car while you are here. I know the owners of a couple of car sales lot. Lexa offers.

Actually I dont want a car. I will not be doing a lot of traveling while I am here. I just plan on going to work and home. If I need go to the store, I can get a cab to get back. By the way, when do you think I can move in into the apartment? I just need to find out so I can extend my reservation at the hotel. Bette asked hoping it would be sooner than later.

Actually, you can move in this afternoon. I just got it clean and its ready for move in. I was going to put it on the paper but I much rather have you stay there than anyone else. As for the store, just let me know when you need to go and I will give you a ride. You certain dont need to take a cab. There is a Super Wal Mart just a couple of blocks from the apartment.

Bette gives Lexa a weird look and asked, Whatsa Super Wal Mart?

Lexa tries to hold her laughter in but fails. My dear girl, you dont know what a Super Wal Mart is? I guess you have lived a pretty sheltered life. Super Wal Mart is a multi department store with a grocery. One of the best thing about it aside from the low prices, it is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Its where the common people like myself shop sometimes. Tell you what, our first business trip will be to that store. How about this afternoon? That way we can get you some food for your new apartment.

Oh, ok. I think I have heard of that name before. Yes that will be fine and you are right. My past life was very sheltered, as you call it. But again, that life is in the past. I want to be a different person now. I better person.

Why dont we go back to your hotel room and get you checked out. I can show you where the apartment is and then we can go to Wal Mart. I also need to shop so it will be perfect timing. Lexa offers.

Actually, tomorrow is better since my hotel is paid for. Ill pack everything tonight and if you can just come by and get me, that would be great. Just let me know what time and Ill be ready.

Lexa and Bette got up from the table. Before heading their separate destination, Lexa gives Bette a hug. This will be good for you. Just let the healing start. Lexa says encouragingly.

Bette thanks Lexa and they walk to their separate ways. Bette is about to take the next step to her new life. A step that she hopes is to the right direction. Maybe things will be alright after all

    1. Great chapter. I really like your story and can’t wait to see what Bette and Tina doing next and will Tina go find Bette. Please post soon the next one, thank you!

    2. No, don’t go to WalMart!! For a wide variety of reasons. I know, you’re writing this wonderful story, and all I can do is cringe that you’re sending her to shop at the leading capitalist oppressor! Keep up the good work … but let her shop at the local small merchant’s shop instead! And let her tell Lexa her real name sometime soon so that she can find herself by dealing with her issues instead of trying to find solace in a new identity. Thanks for writing – keep it up!

    3. For all Lexa knows, Bette could be a deranged escaped axe murderer! She’s very trusting or very perceptive. Which is it?
And Lexa could be Kathy Bates’ character from Misery – looking for a captive to control . That angle could make for eventful reading.
I’m glad Bette is taking Lexa’s generosity on her own terms – not coming to the apartment immediately when it was offered.
Is Lexa too good to be true?
      Thanks for writing another chapter!
And Tina, does she regret her actions now? What will she do to change her M.O. of passive agression?

    4. Great chapter. This get away seems good for Bette. Lexa sounds like one of those old wise women. I think she’ll help Bette find her way back to the good part of her old life. The old life wasn’t all bad, so shed the bad, and reclaim the good.

    5. Oh this gets better and better, and really everyone knows what a Wal Mart is, well I take that back because Paris Hilton ask is Walmart a place that sells thing for Walls!!lol really!!!….anyway Tina you dont realize what you have until its gone
