    Previously:

        “I didn’t try to help you. That would never happen.”

        “Are you a turtle-catching expert then?”

        “No. But I do love you.”

        Tina lay there, stunned and unsure if she’d heard correctly.

        “And because I love you, I would never risk that giant turtle swimming and carrying you away.”

        Tina tried to calm her thundering heart. “Uh?”

        Bette rolled on top of Tina and grinned down at Tina’s pale face. “Now it’s your turn.”

        “I… I love you too, Bette.”

        “I knew it.” Bette’s smug smile was quickly smothered in one of Tina’s heart-stopping bone-melting kisses.

        And the sun rose on the horizon, casting light on the two figures on the bed, loving.

        “But I’m comfortable like this.”

        “But you can’t eat like that.”

        “Watch me.”

        Bette sighed deeply and indeed watched Tina dig into a bowl of cereal with her knee tucked under her chin.

        “That sort of contortionism couldn’t possibly feel good.”

        “Yeah? It felt kinda good  in bed this morning, didn’t it?”

        Bette blushed and crunched down into a mouthful of cereal. Swallowing, she muttered, “Brat.”

        Tina winked and stuck out her tongue. “You love me anyway.”

        “That I do.” Bette conceded.

        They ate the rest of breakfast in comfortable
    silence. After they were done, Bette stood up to put their bowls in the
    sink. Tina stretched and yawned widely.

        “So what are you doing today?” Tina asked Bette.

        “I’m going to work of course. How about you?” Bette answered with a smile.

        “I was thinking about going to the community college, ask about how things work down there.”

        Bette turned to face Tina with a happy grin. “You’re going to enroll?”

        “I might.” Tina sent Bette a
    don’t-get-your-hopes-up-just-yet look. “It depends what the schedule
    would be like and whether I get the right vibe off the place.”

        “The right vibe?”

        “Yes, you know, if I feel good about the place.”

        “Okay honey. I’m just happy you’re thinking about
    going back to school.” Bette walked to stand near Tina and lay her
    palms on either side of Tina’s soft neck. Tina looked so good in the
    morning, Bette thought idly, so soft and mussed-looking.

First, let me just say that when I realized Tina was reciting “I Will Always Love You,” I was thinking of Dolly Parton singing it to Burt Reynolds in “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” While a sad moment, it’s much nicer than Whitney’s version which was full of catterwalling. *ducks to avoid being hit by flying objects* Now, at first I was sad that this was the last chapter, but we got a happy ending without craploads of drama in the process. Even though it would mean pairing Bette with Candyass, I’d like to see a prequel. That way we can see what events caused Bette to basically become an insecure introvert. And then of course a sequel would be nice, maybe even 10 or 20 years into the future. Oh and I never mentioned this earlier, but when Tina said she was from West Virginia I almost fell outta my chair because I live there. And yes, I wear shoes. ;)

    26. Oh boy what a story. I just read it from beginning to end in one go when I should really have been doing “important things”. Oh well I still think I spent my time better by reading! Loved your premise from the beginning, really appreciate your style, enjoyed your vocab a little too much and am still basking in the fuzzy feeling you’ve left me with. Thank you so very much.
