    Hoops & Layups – Chapter 22

    CHAPTER 22

The doctor and Maggie came in and said that Bette had dropped about 15 pounds and was dehydrated.

"You have an intestinal rupture. The medicine and time will help heal it. If not we will have to surgically repair it. What have you been eating?" asked the doctor.

"I would often forget to eat on the go, I had a lot of new stress, that would
account for the weight loos" Bette told him, "I would make it a priority to eat better, not skip meals"

"You’re also going to have to drink these shakes for a while"

"That’s all doc, I can handle that"

"I will see you on my next rounds" he said, and he left.

    "Where is Tina?" asked Bette.

"She went home to change clothes" replied Maggie, "This stops today and I mean it" she yelled, "I went through the cabinets at your house Bette and the ones at home. Bette…I found the syrup, do you know what that does to your heart? You had practically no food in the fridge, I threw out all the supplements. You will be staying at wild wind until I medically release you."

Bink’s walked through the door with the notebooks Bette asked to bring her.

"I am going to pick up Tina, we will be back soon" said Maggie.

"Maggie, you’re my doctor now…" said Bette, "You know what that means…"

"I know…" she sigh and she walked out the door, "Bink’s, Porter…this is your last chance. The next time you both will be going to Oak Haven. I love you both, please don’t make me do that but I will if I have too. Bette, we have to get this under control again"

"I can’t go back to Oak Haven…" said Bette.

    "Neither can I" said Bink’s.

"Ok Bink’s" said Bette, "I have a plan. We both see Dr Meadows 4 times a week and while I am staying with you guys we eat together"

"What will you tell Tina?" asked Bink’s.

"I will just say that I am staying with you because Maggie is a doc and you have servant that will keep me from doing too much. Ugggggghhhhhhhhhh !" Bette said, "I hate lying to her but the scaring thing is I am doing this with such easy"

    1. T, sorry I didn’t get this proofed sooner. I had gotten a number of stories to take a look at before the ceremony so I was really bogged down. Anyway, this one hits a little too close to home for me. I think it is a storyline that certainly needs to be told, and I feel you definately have done it justice. You took this part of Bette’s struggle and have delicately brought it to life over the last 21 chapters up to this one. I’m pleased you didn’t take such a struggle and just address it in one chapter. You have done a fine job with this, and I hope to see you continue this until she is able to get this in remission. There never really is a true cure for it, and it takes alot of work on your own part and the support of other’s around you to help one keep it in check. Thanks again.

    2. Hey Ty, so happy to see that this story is back,,,,,,and I must say that when I started reading the names of Binks and Maggie it finally dawned on me who the heck were these gals,,LOL AMC. TBH I liked Lena and Binks much more, but oh well I like your story better. Now I see that this is a very serious subject and unfortunately, many women and even men more so are using this form of disease to not gain weight. It kills and its not pretty :( And I loved how Magg’s is ging to help Tina with her daughter and best friend. Great chapter Ty :)

    3. Well, I have posted a new tibette chapter, so please check it out when you have the chance! Anyhoo, great chapter, I hope Tina gives Bette the tender care she needs and be the loving partner Bette needs as well! You are the best! :-)

    4. You don’t wanna know what I’m doin’ at 3am, but I was VERY happy to watch Germany take the Cup and see a Nike commercial with Mia in it! “I am an athlete”…I miss her! Anyway..onto your story. This is a very hard subject matter to deal with, and I have a lot of personal thoughts on the matter actually. I’ll save them for private, but I did want to say that I’m still following even if I don’t leave a comment all the time…thanks for posting a great chapter! HUGS*

    5. Eating disorders are so dangerous but easy to fall into. It seems to be the only thing that a person is able to control, the amount of food intake or lack of. It takes a lot of courage to work on the eating and then it takes more courage to open up about it. Hopefully, Bette and Tina can be there for each other.

    6. Glad to see an update at last :) Your summary was quite accurate, ‘the dangers of eating disorders’ – So not just a physical process. The frame of mind you’re in mentally builds up and progresses. These notions in your head fester until you’re crouched beside the toilet bowl forcing your stomach out. But one of most horrifying things is that it’s likely to be permanent, I mean, you can ‘recover’ but you never actually rid yourself of it. Once you’ve seen how easy it is to skip meals, throw up, start lying, that’s an addiction in itself. The thrill of the hunger pains reiterating your control. Unfortunately, the rate is growing and it’s been a shockingly common theme in my life so far. And when I state a negative comment about anorexia or bulimia, I’m not going out of my way to be hypocritical. I’m trying to offer insight, not only from experience but also from watching it progress in others. That’s another thing you stand to lose; with all the lies you tell, it’s hard to gain that trust again. Hard for your friends to let you go urinate without standing with their ears pressed into the door. Bette’s gained weight after a substantial fall before, I assume? In that case, she needs to let Tina in. Acknowledge that it’s become a problem again and work towards fixing it. Together. Same goes for Tina, she doesn’t escape my lexical beating.. I understand it’s hard to trust but T really needs to tell Bette about Summer and Alex. I presume she will soon if they’re about to get into the thick of the action. But Bette needs to see that in order to care for Tina, Alex, Binks, etc. She needs to be fit. Oh, and I did feel myself tearing up over Maggie’s words to Binks, “When I hold you, I feel you might break” – that one was quite hard to read since it sounds a lot like a comment I, myself, made to a friend recently. It’s a scary thought to hold someone and feel every contour of their skeleton against you. But it’s even scarier when you feel how fragile they are and STILL feel jealous at their size. Thank you so for this story. It’s real and it’s brave. Thank you, ADx

    7. Tylo… good chapter… and i also think it needs to be addressed… and its good that bette will be watched… maybe tina can stay withher… that was a great idea… and i hope alex comes soon to be with tina… maybe a car could hit jonathon… it would solve a lot of the problems… PPS

    8. Good chapter. Hope they will catch that baster soon and put him in jail forever. Hope Bette will get well soon and she and Tina need to talk. Please post soon, thanks!
