    Held in Contempt Ch. 2

"You’re not as uptight as I thought you were," Bette said. "But I can’t believe you propositioned me in front of the judge."
"I plead temporary insanity," Tina said. "Besides, I did get away with it."
"Sorry for calling you a bitch. Heat of the moment."
"I can’t say I’m sorry I propositioned you," Tina replied.
"Neither am I. I am surprised the fact that you date women didn’t filter its way through the grapevine of courtroom gossip, though," Bette said. "Obviously you knew about me, or you wouldn’t have said that."
    "Your reputation precedes you."
"Do you remember the first time we faced each other?" Bette asked.
"Four years ago," Tina said. "I had just moved to the D.A’s office after abandoning a position at Loyola."
"That’s why you appeared out of nowhere," Bette said. "You weren’t practicing – you were teaching?"
"I fell into a faculty position after finishing my Ph.D. at Oxford," Tina replied. "But I missed the practical application of the law."
"You don’t respect me very much," Bette said. "You think I do the devil’s work."
"I couldn’t defend some of those you defend," Tina said. "Their guilt matters to me."
Their conversation was interrupted momentarily as the check was presented by the server. Bette reached for it, took a quick glance, and set her credit card inside the folder before placing it back on the table.
"Thanks for dinner," Tina said. "The meal was fantastic."
    "And the company?"
    "Surprisingly entertaining."
"I offer the defense due to my clients by virtue of our justice system," Bette said. "No more, no less. Who I defend is not who I am."
"I’ll keep that in mind," Tina replied.
Bette was soon decelerating her car as she pulled in front of Tina’s house.
"Would you like to come in for some tea?" Tina offered.
    "What, no scotch?"
"If you would prefer scotch, I can make that happen," Tina said.
"I’m joking, tea would be great," Bette said. "When does your work day start?"
"I usually get in by 8:30," Tina replied.
"I promise to have you in bed by 11," Bette grinned.

    1. Ok so this is interesting Tina is still mourning a little…..and Bette is actually a little less arrogant and kinder out side of the courtroom…I like their relaxed flow with conversation on the date, and I’m glad Tina is putting herself back out there….great start to your story

    2. Really like this one. It is showing Bettes softer side away from the job even though she can be a tigress in the courtroom. Great update. Now on to the next chapter in line.
