Alice: …You don’t…know…what I’m feeling…
Dana sees the hurt in Alice’s eyes, but she also sees it Carmen’s. It’s an epiphanic moment for Dana and for one second, it all makes sense to her. Dana sees more harm being done than good.
Dana: Al…baby, go to the car and calm down.
Alice: …What?
Dana: I wanna talk to Carmen alone.
Alice: But…
Dana leans over and kisses Alice on the lips.
Dana: Please…just go to the car.
Alice looks down and nods, somberly.
Alice: …Okay.
Dana: We’ll be right out in a few, okay?
Alice: Alright…I’ll be in the car…
Alice leaves slowly out of the lockerroom. Dana watches her go as Carmen waits. Once Alice has disappeared from view and sounds of distant doors are heard open and closed, Dana turns her attention to Carmen again. At first, Dana says nothing as Carmen waits. Carmen shrugs, still waiting.
Dana: …This isn’t about friendship, is it?
Carmen is unsure what to say to her.
Dana: I just…got that vibe. Tell me if I’m wrong…tell me if I’m right. Just tell me, either way Carmen.
Carmen’s arms are crossed, but her right hand is now trying to cover her eyes.
Dana: Look…I’m not gonna get mad. I’m not gonna get upset. You just need to understand why…things are the way they are.
Carmen lifts her eyes from her hands, holding in a sob.
Carmen: And why’s that?
Dana: …I’ve let her go twice. And each time, I hated it. And…when I was so close to death I could feel it…when I was in that hospital bed….I thought about her. I thought about Al… I thought about these two women that I….love so much. And the Hell that I had put them through, because I couldn’t make up my mind. Because I didn’t feel like I deserved to be with anyone that special… And Lara came back…and she and Al didn’t fight. And for the first time, I truly felt special. …And I realized all along…that it had always been there. I just kept running away from it. And I told myself, Carmen that…I’d never do that to either of them, again. I never wanna be away from Al…I love Alice. And nothing is gonna change that…

Yes!! It finally happened! Love the pairing and love the story. I get the impression that Alice is also secretly in love with Lara, maybe even more so than with Dana…? Think of the friction! Can’t wait for the next post, thanks Kace.
I echo above comments, Dana: nice lame excuse, but at least you’re talking; Alice crushin’ on Lara a bit? And Lara maybe (gasp) ready to be happy with someonea and get the respect she deserves a la Carmen? And wait, is the ‘where it all began’ thing… Carmen herself? Or am I missing Lara’s ‘the answer to your question is you’ thing. I’m confused. But that’s OK, I often am. LOL. Please post soon and I love how this fic is unfolding. Very textured and just MARVY!

That’s the wishy-washiest excuse for “having your cake and eating it too” *ever*, Dana. I can’t believe she’s disguising such selfishness as not wanting to hurt Lara. And Alice… I still don’t understand her deal. Those two deserve each other; Lara deserves better. Bette’s idea for an intervention might be a little too late, though. Seems like Lara’s made a choice? (I hope?) Urgh. Despite any um, obvious bitterness, I liked the chapter, Kace. Post when you can, and feel better soon. Cheers

Geez Kace your cold/flu sounds never-ending, Hope you’re out & about soon. Finally, Lara & Carmen get together. Luv how it was written. Shane’s realization that Carmen has moved on, lol.
