    Heartbeat – Chapter 3

    Previously…

The nurse watched Christina walked down the hallway. She was about to stand when she noticed an employee ID card on the floor. Picking it up, she looked at the ID card: Medical Hospital of New York, Christina Kennard, Physician Assistant. Sue placed the ID card on the table and looked down at her notes and read the patient’s name, Elizabeth Porter.

    Chapter 3

Sue was waiting in the ambulance arrival area when the ambulance finally pulled up. “Hey, Frank. Is this our rule out heart attack?” She walked to the back of the ambulance and watched Frank and Joe pull the stretcher from the ambulance. “

“Yes, she was jogging around the tracks at the university and collapsed. The nurse and a P.A. were at scene and the P.A. started the IV. She’s complaining of chest pain, radiating to her arms and back.” Frank and Joe wheeled Bette in the E.R. “Where to Sue?”

Sue, walking behind the EMTs, directed them to the room. “I need to call Christina. She and the ER attending are going to be handling this patient.” She looked at the patient. “It’s going to be okay. Dr. Martin and Christina are the best, especially Christina.” She saw her patient’s lips moving and removed the non-breather away from her mouth. She leaned down to listen.

Bette kept her eyes closed and gripped the railings of the stretcher, her fingers turning white. “Tina…Tina…” she groaned.

The blonde exited the cab. She placed the script in her tote and pulled out her cell phone from her purse. She dialed her voice mail and checked for messages. Hearing one from her assistant, she disconnected from her voice mail and speed dialed her assistant. “Hi, Melissa, it’s Andrea. I’m here at the studio. Listen, Bette is in the hospital. As soon as I’m finished here I’m going to the hospital. I need you to cancel the dinner appointment I have tonight. Reschedule it. I know, I haven’t seen Bette in months. Let’s keep this quiet please. Only you and her assistant James know that Bette and I are no longer together.”

James rushed in the emergency room carrying Bette’s belongings. He stopped at the reception area. “Hi. I’m looking for Elizabeth Porter. She was brought in about a few minutes ago. The ambulance came from the university.”

    1. Well, if she wasn’t having a heart attack before, she’ll have one now. ;-) Very invigorating start! (I know – it’s chapter 3. I take awhile…)

    2. so the mention of twins…was not so much tongue in cheek… how often though do people choose new partner based unconsciously or not on the looks of their former love… I like that…no wonder Bette is stressed..That Andrea looks to be a right piece of work…and BTW..TONI..tut tut and you know why!!! xxK

    3. WOW! Cool story… I love the twists and turns as well. The thing about relationships is that they are hard word and it takes two to make them as well as break them. I love looking at them on a spiritual level. Maybe the first time wasn’t the right time for them to be together. We’re all human and making mistakes is what we do best for our learning. Fate and destiny have brought them back into the same space and forgiveness is a cool thing. We shall see what happens next.

    4. Ok don’t ask me how but was already anticipating since the first chapter that B&T weren’t together (that the wife of President Porter mentioned, was not gonna be T). Like nearly everyone else, the second chapter also had me thinking that it was T in the cab (physical description and her reading a script and mentioning James as a “go-between” screamed T, however her attitude once knowing B was in the hospital was first clue that it was hopefully not T). Introduction of Christina, before knowing she was in fact our T, was confusing because all the signs pointed to her possibly being T but with the introduction of the blonde in the cab had me wondering if this was going to be sci-fi story with the characters from parallel dimensions crossing over. Learning that T was the one to cheat is not frequently tackled and interested to learn more about this B&T backstory to find out what led up to this occurence and if there were any consequences (read: pregnancy, a child – whether by Oscar, Marcus’ donation or some other source?) following it. Shall be interesting to see how this story unfolds and learn more about B & Andrea’s history, the reason of their impending divorce and whether Andrea will let go now that she’s met B’s T?! Thank you for this new story and PPS!! :D

    5. OMG, this is really a mess; an estranged wife and a lost love both at her bedside. Who will Bette call for and who ill she send away. My money is on Tina, always. Thanks for posting.

    6. great stuff. i like how this is playing out and the twists. i was a little confused in the beginning but it is all starting to fall in place. i understand why bette would want to try to move on as well but it always takes a close brush to death to add clarity to what is truly important to a person. i can’t wait to see how this plays out. andrea sounds horrible when she actually seem torn between business and her wife. but who knows how much she could have possibly suffered living in the shadows of another. although tina cheating with oscar sounds awful, at least she had the decency to stay away out of respect to bette. i still wan the golden couple back together. bring it on! :)
