After eating, Bette and Helena moved towards Bette’s bedroom. Helena noticed a sheet of paper sitting on the bed. She could tell that what was written on the paper were lyrics.
“What’s this?” Helena reached for the paper and Bette snatched it back. She clutched it close to her chest and fell back to the bed.
“They’re lyrics and you can’t read them.” Bette was so adorable, Helena thought. All she wanted to do right then was kiss her.
“Aww, Bette! Please. I won’t make fun of you.”
“Are you sure?”
“I promise.”
Bette smiled and picked up her acoustic six-string.
“There’s something in your eyes. Is everything alright? You look up to the sky, you long for something more. Darling, give me your right hand. I think I understand. Follow me and you will never have to wish again.”
Bette was nervous about singing this to Helena because the song was practically written for her. After spending their first whole day together, even though they were not a couple, Bette was completely swept off her feet. She wanted to ask Helena out, but she was too scared of being rejected. But the more they hung out together, the harder it was for her to hide those feelings.
“I know that after tonight you won’t have to look up at the stars, no no no no. I know by the end of the night, you don’t have to look up at the stars…”
Helena closed her eyes and listened to Bette’s voice. She didn’t want to vocalize it, but she knew she was falling in love with this fantastic woman.
“Come away with me. Come fly away with me. Just for one night, no one will ever know, no no. Darling, I will leave you satisfied. Forever, past time. You don’t have to hide, you’re free to fly…”
As the song was coming to an end, Helena opened her eyes, only to find Bette staring right at her.
“I know by the end of tonight you’ll be look down upon them from heaven.”
Helena sighed as Bette put her guitar down.
“That was beautiful, Bette.” Helena said softly.
