girls in bands
Bette and Helena stayed up all night talking about their favorite bands, including indie bands and big names. They found out they had plenty in common—they were both anticipating graduation and had a profound love for art and music.
“Well, see that’s the difference between New York punk and London punk. While New York is all about social politics, London is more about social change.” Bette explained.
“Agreed. Richard Hell, Blank Generation—that explains it all.” Helena smiled; glad she had found someone who shared her sentiment.
Bette began playing the melody on her guitar, the amp turned down low enough not to wake the neighbors.
“I belong to the blank generation, I can take it or leave each time. Well, I belong to the generation, but I can take it or leave it each time.” The pair sang together.
“Its like being bored with what life has to give you.” Bette commented.
“And growing into a consumerism that leaves you completely empty inside.” Helena nodded, not even acknowledging that she hadn’t taken her eyes away from Bette’s for even a moment.
Bette yawned, “It’s getting late.”
“It is. I’m going to turn in. You have a good night, Bette.” Helena and Bette both walked toward the door, Bette propping it open with her body and letting Helena out.
“You too. I hope I see you at the gig.”
“I wouldn’t miss it.”
**
Bette pulled herself up to sit on the edge of the stage at Howard’s. Rehearsal had always been less about practicing and more about socializing for her band.
In the past couple days, Bette and Helena would meet at one of their apartments and talk all day long—sometimes they wouldn’t even talk; just sit and listen to records until the crack of dawn. They had so much in common, not to mention that Helena was beautiful. It was starting to become difficult not to think of her when she wasn’t there.
“So, I was thinking we could open up with Cherry Bomb and then move into some Riot Grrl favorites.” Alice suggested.
“When are we going to start performing our own shit?” Shane asked.
“When we get a fucking album, that’s when we can perform our own shit.” Alice answered.

This was a really good chapter and both women want to take things slow with one another and they don’t even know it yet,,lol. And I see that Helena’s best friend sees she likes Bette and now I want to know if Bette will be jealous of Helena’s best bud?
First off, Kings of Leon rocks my socks off. Haha. Okay back to B and H. Everything seems to be going good. Hopefully B doesn’t misunderstand H’s guy friend as her boyfriend. :l But then again, bring on the drama! LOL.
Do people really fall this fast because I’ve never experience falling in love so I would know. I guess it doesnt matter I’m still enjoying the story. Hey, don’t Bette and her band know this is the 21 century and there is a thing called a computer? They can make their own cd’s and give them away at shows, build a buzz and maybe there music will fall into the right hands. The days of waiting for a music contact is over.
@retroboogie yes people sometimes fall this fast if ‘the click’ is there and you got the feeling that you have known each other all your life.B&H are havin it bad for one another, hope Brant isn’t ging to spoil things for them. PPS
I like the story setup…the whole girl band is very nice…very fresh. PPS!
Alice has always cracked me up and your rendition of her here is no exception!: Homies over Ho’s!~:D On with the story! And thank you, ash! Lovin’ it!
