    Chapter 40 – Wanting Something More

    Bette was sitting at her desk at the CAC, last nights dinner with Tina and their daughter was such a good memory. Yes there had been some rough moments but overall the evening had been full of surprises. Tina had confided in her about her new job opportunity and more than that had asked for her opinion. What a first step towards what? That was what filled Bettes thoughts right now. Yes, she and Tina needed to talk and resolve some of the past that was evident yesterday. Bette just didnt feel that last night was the right time for that kind of heavy discussion. Over all the whole evening gave Bette hope that she could have that discussion with Tina and the outcome might not be her banishment from their lives.

    These were the thoughts running wild in Bettes head as she prepared for the audit with Helenas accountant which was about to start in the next half hour. When Franklin found out that Helena was bringing in her own accounting firm to perform this audit he hit the roof. Bette was pleasantly surprised by his support until she figured out that any impropriety would not put him in a good light so for better or worse his lot was thrown in with hers. What an interesting co-conspirator he would make if Helenas auditors found anything. For that reason Franklin insisted that the CAC auditor team also be present. What a circus this should be Franklin, Helena, her auditor team of 3 and the CACs auditor team of 3 and Bette herself all spending the day in the conference room together. Thank God for last nights good memories to give Bettes mind this peace before the wild ride started in the next room.

    Walking into the conference room, Bette sees that the each side has already taken their half of the table. God this is going to be fun Bette now says with a smile as she knows there is nothing to hide so she just thinks that she will play with Helena for a while. Hello Helena I see you brought your minions.

Geez…what’s up Helena’s ass??!…Such hatred for Bette…I wonder what crap she’s gonna pull out of her arse to make Bette look bad during this audit…Tina…now there’s a smart gal…I can feel the wheels in her brain start turning…I think she suspects something…but by the looks of things, she’s happy with her revelations…wicked chapter Jwet=D…Please keep them coming!

    2. Great job as always I just wish she would know about Bette’s involvment in the projest before she gets in too far and gets upset with Bette for not telling her..I know I worry alot…Posr soon you know I love this story.

Tina better say yes, that way she gets some down tyme until she starts the new position and Bette will be put on administrative leave until the CAC sort the budget out. See I’ve got, both women free to frollick with Anna and each other. (A girl can dream, can’t she)! Jwet your stories make me smile when I read them, Thanks.

    12. I’m all for writers not spelling everything out and leaving a bit to the imagination, but I think perhaps I should add some limits to that thought. (There was board weirdness earlier; I hope Jwet checks in on her story.)

    20. I think Tina should reward Bette for being more open and honest. Perhaps a trip to the spa for a body wrap and an airbrush would be a nice gift.

    21. If Bette is confident that the books are okay then the Auditors will have wasted their time but there is a but its Helena we are dealing with.. Alice is like a bloodhound dog she just doesn’t give up..mmm this article she is writing it will be very interesting to read.

      I am chortling to myself thinking about you laughing at my comments.
      So back to this chapter:
      Brilliant, yet again a wonderfully plotted and convinced installment; artistic use of imagery and word play makes the events just jump off the page for the reader. Bravo *Claps wildly*.
      Tina is making the right decision. Bette is doing all the right things for the right reasons. Alice is being Alice as usual (Thank the heavens). Dana is lunching with her mother (for real!!!). Anna is a babe.
      As for today’s questions:
      Has everyone at the CAC read Jenny’s carnival story? Does Franklin have a secret passion for clown shoes? When will Helena bring out her red nose and start to juggle Richard Prince big jars? Will Alice and Dana change into their Cagney and Lacey disguises? Does Oscar have his own range of hotdogs?
      All these and more to be answered next time on “From Afar”.
