From Afar
Tina arrived home to find the front porch light left on for
her. Pulling in the driveway Tina lets
out a big sigh, she now can admit to all the fatigue that’s been nagging her
for the last hour or so. Gathering up
her possessions, Tina drags herself out of the car. Her back is telling her she sat in one
position for a very long time, it’s a little stiff.
Making her way up the front steps and through the front door
Tina is trying to be quiet, not wanting to wake anyone up. The warmth of her home hits her as she opens
the front door bringing a smile to Tina’s face.
Being home with her family is worth every minute of her long day. Turning out the front light and locking the
door, Tina makes her way to her family.
Stopping at Anna’s door, Tina peaks in to check on her angel. Anna is fast asleep but Tina can see her
slightly runny nose. Wondering whether
she’s teething or really coming down with a cold Tina is just glad to be
home.
Tina then makes a bee line to the bathroom where she goes
through her nightly routine. Quietly
slipping into their bedroom, Tina sees Bette asleep and quickly gets undressed
and joins her.
Bette quickly grabs onto Tina “Welcome home Baby” Bette says
in a sleepy voice.
“Shhh, go back to sleep.
I love you.” Tina says as she finally stops for the day.
Chapter 109 – Tension in the Air
Tina moved her head as the sound of her alarm penetrated her
mind. ‘God is it that time
already?’ Slowly peeling an eye open
she turns her head towards the noise.
The clock glared back 5:55 in red letters. Turning to pull her arm from under the
covers, Tina gasps as she catches a twinge in her back. Trying to move a little she realizes her back
feels stiff and sore. Quickly turning
off the alarm Tina lifts her head and looks over to Bette.
Bette is gone. The
covers are pushed aside and the pillow still has the indentation where she had
slept. Letting her head drop back to her
own pillow Tina pauses gathering her strength to start another day. She feels tired this morning as the effects
of her long day yesterday can be felt in both her bones and her mind. A fog appears to be there, Tina just doesn’t
seem to be able to shake the cobwebs out.

Oh my God, you spent the whole chapter on a sick Anna, and then only at the end remind us of the angst of the previous chapter?????
Geez J, now I know how the readers of my story felt when I got distracted by the salmon!!!!
Bette, forget Freud! you too J! please:)
I”m going to give Tina a “pass” on her reaction to Bette staying with the baby. As a fairly new mom, I know I go into overdrive and become a tad overprotective when my little one is sick. But then again Tina is much more level headed than me. I think Bette better have that discussion.
Tina was tired and the Mother in her kicked in. Bette does need to talk to Tina. Tina has got to remember that Anna loves
bette Little children and dog can really judge people. thank
OH NO…just when things seem to be working out for Bette, Tina, and Anna…that article from the paper is coming to haunt them, huh??? I think that you should kill off Helena, what do you think???
i think bettes in for a hell of a day. j – hmmm. i know your loving this. were all in a twiter. i know tina didnt mean it. i would have wanted to stay home also. her mouth moved before her brain functioned. thanks.
You captured the after effects of a very long and tiring day perfectly. We forget about the sore muscles, stiff joints, fuzzy head and even fuzzier thinking that results from stretching ourselves that thin.
Tina’s long day may not have resulted in a physical crash, but her weariness from the previous day nearly caused a collision of a different kind with Bette.
I’m hoping that it’s only being tired that made Tina think twice about having Bette watch Anna. I suppose it could also be that old habits are hard to break, and Tina was the mommy first and it was just instinct.
Hee hee hee. Nice that Anna comes with a ‘wail warning’. Sort of like a delayed timing device.
Bette is learning to trust on a much larger scale. She is trusting her instincts to talk to Tina and she is trusting James to run with the project. Both great steps in the right direction.
Rut roh – Tina can’t be reached and Jack wants to talk to Bette urgently…what has Helena done or what has Jack found out? Very ominous ending.
You have definitely stepped up the angst factor with this ending. Nicely done! Can’t wait.
Very good chapter. This is such an engaging story, have followed happily since the beginning.
Short, but sweet and very interesting chapter Jwet. I think that Tina’s overaction was just due to her being overly tired and the fact the she has become used to be a single parent. I glad that she checked herself and it wouldn’t hurt for them to have a little talk about it, but nonethinbg long and drawn out because that would add too much weight to something that was purely accidental.
Well, well, now the other shoe is about to drop bceause Jack will make Bette aware of the newspaper reporta about her involvement in the foundation (I am sure that Tina has become aware and this is the reason that Bette can’t get a hold of her.). Is this some of Helena’s handy work? The plot TICKNESS!!
Well I think Tina just tired and she worry about Anna that’s all and didn’t mean to hurt Bette. Ok let see what’s next!
In defense of T – she was tired and it was totally maternal instincts kicking in – I can almost guarantee it :)
Hmmm….Tina is uncomfortable leaving a sick Anna with Bette, that can’t be good.
Down Low must be refreshing her page continuously – she’s been the first on loads of comments! Has she got nothing better to do than read???
Anyway – SHSL is adorable, she’s looking out for a tired Tina and then gets it thrown back, bad Tina!
Great to read that there are still some minor differences in the relationship – it all takes time to fully accept being back in the fold 24/7 and they both have different ways of dealing with it! Great Job mate x
Another great chapter. I too will chalk up Tina’s behavior to maternal instincts. If Bette were a man I think she would still have the same reaction.
P.S- In the midst of all the angst, can we get some B&T loving????
humm i agree with aimlow..it seems that was the first time Anna got sick after Bette move back home..than i think was only Tina´s maternal instincts but it better they talk to elucidate things cuz adopition is a huge step to make…Bette and Anna are so cute together and Anna really loves Bette..ok stop play mean to me Jwet..lol..post soon thanks :o)
I agree I think Tina was just reacting to being a mother of a sick chil and tired.. What does Jack want I hope it is not a problem but I am sure with Helena there will be a big one I hope this time it is in Bettes Favor.. Post soon LOVE THIS STORY>>>>>
Jobadge that was funny. What’s up my friend?I think that it was mother’s instinct kicking in.As a mom I can understand.Bette needs to tell Tina how that comment made her feel.
Jwet, this story still captivates me.Love it.
love thai chapter jwet. Bette and Tina are communicating instead of runnin. Tina didnt mean to imply anything by her actions. just that mothers instinct kickin in.
I am defending Tina also..I have also done that to my partner. Just a natural instinct to be with the child you gave birth to. great chapter Jwet…
Ok, now I know how hard life is without a computer! My laptop crashed and finally got it fixed!
Poor Tina….a long day driving to and fron San Deigo, meetings, lack of sleep, a sick baby, a “concerned” partner (Bette wondering if Tina considers her as Anna mom), endless phone calls (VM box full???????that’s gotta be rough – even on a super bad day, we insurance people don’t get a full box); and now the editorials.
In the words of Han Solo – “how are we going to get out of this one?”.
Can’t wait to see what’s in store.
Still trying to load my favorites for internet websites…..but I’d gladly stop to read your story?????!!! Does this count as a bribe?
Thanks for sharing.
Oh Jeez, what’s going on?
Ok, aside from that I think the whole scene in the kitchen is authentic. I think T spoke out of stress and worry and not about distrust. Bette’s handling it well, though. You do a great job with these domestic scenes, I can always picture exactly what’s going on.
Looking forward to the next chapter, as always.
