Forged in Fire: Chapter 12
The scene had an air of déjà vu; they were seated at a four-top near the back of The Planet. It was Sunday morning breakfast and Bette was making her way through a stack of blueberry cakes while Tina had nearly finished her French toast. Tina took a sip of her coffee prepared with cream and a hint of sugar and watched her girlfriend eat.
“What?” asked Bette.
“Yesterday, someone helped me learn to appreciate art,” Tina replied.
Bette chewed the bite in her mouth and smiled. “Really? Anyone I know?”
“You may have heard of her. She’s gorgeous and brilliant.”
“Is she now?” asked Bette.
“Yep. And because of that, I just have this newfound appreciation for works of art. And you, are indeed a work of art. I was just admiring you,” said Tina.
Now Bette was blushing. She looked down shyly. “Well, somebody is just rearing to go this Sunday morning.”
“Look at me,” Tina said softly. She waited until Bette met her gaze. They shared a look that made the hairs stand up on the back of Bette’s neck. She slowly licked her lips.
“I love you, Bette. And I’m sorry again about yesterday,” said Tina.
“It’s okay, T.”
“Will you tell me about it?”
“About what?” asked Bette.
“What happened with your mom?”
Bette just stared at her.
“Babe?”
“Babe?” Tina called once more.
Bette finally answered her. “I hear you, Tina. I just…I don’t know where to begin.”
“Just tell me something. Like…what is your mom like?”
Bette frowned then; thinking through her old memories. “Smart, I think. Kind of witty. She didn’t cook a whole lot but sometimes, we’d bake cookies. Sometimes we went to the park. And she liked to swim. I started swimming because of her. It made me feel close to her.”
Tina asked, “When did she leave?”
Bette sighed. “I was just shy of turning 12. She umm….she had an affair with one of my dad’s friends. I think he was a friend. I didn’t know him well. His name was David. I’d seen him around a few times.”
The hazel eyes grew wide. “Oh wow. How did you find out? Did your dad tell you?”
Bette shook her head. “No, T. I um…I walked in on them. While they were…well…you know,” she replied.

Good chapter – Bette tells Tina about her mom. Kit comes home and Dylan goes home. Kit and Bette talk about Melvin which is helpful to Bette and even though Tina is working late, they connect and plan for a more normal life in the near future. Time to start thinking about the future….
Thanks for the chapter… its a good to have some entertainment, and exercising one’s imagination is one of the best.
Thanks for the Chapter, just what I needed to help with the Pandemicking (great word much better than Isolation!)
Look forward to more of your storytelling to keep me relatively sane and much happier.
Stay safe

I’m with SG, pandemicking – great! I love your calender, MTS. You really lose the feeling for date and time these days. If there hadn’t been my bday, I’d say it’s Mar-pril 56th.
And yes, your story does keep me sane as well. What a nice journey my mind can go to :-)
I’m wondering whether Bette in this dimension will try to contact her mother. Bette’s relationship to Melvin doesn’t seem as stressed as it was in her other reality but it would be interesting if she wants to know the reasons for her mother’s affair and leaving without her daughter.
So happy that Tina is making changes at work. That proves that she took their talks to heart and puts more focus on her private life. A vacation sounds like a very good idea. They need some uninterrupted time together now that it’s only the two of them again.
Thank you for another “soul-feeding” chapter :-)
stay healthy
cheers

Bette’s mother sound like a truly monster – left her child ! without said any words, explanation or good bay !! and never trying contacted with her child during all the years!!!
