    Back to basics

     

    “I was thinking about the guest house. It’s close enough and could be part of the compensation package.”

     

    “I like the way you think Porter.”

     

    “Speaking of names will you be taking mine?” She cast an eye at the blonde.

     

    “Kennard is my professional name.” Tina remarked.

     

    Bette nodded she expected that.  “What about the babe?”

     

    Tina jerked suddenly as the impact of the question hit her.  “Kennard” she answered.

     

    Bette nodded again she expected that.

     

     

     

    They found themselves in a whirlwind of wedding plans.  The simple wedding had morphed into the most exclusive social event of the season.  It took on the mystique of one of Bette’s artists dinners multiplied and the glamour of a wrap party intensified.

     

    The Peabody’s held quite a large stake in the Four Season’s Hotel chain, the engagement party was to be held at their Beverly Hills location.  It was large enough to accommodate the number of guests as well as being ideally positioned to accommodate their diversity.  The hundred rooms booked by guests not directly in the wedding party more than covered the cost of the event and then some.  The hotel quickly sold out for their engagement weekend as media and other interested parties booked rooms just to be able to possibly witness some part of the event.

     

    Kit, Alice and Helena declared themselves the official wedding planners.  Jenny being at loose ends tagged along and her ideas which at first were dismissed were so innovative that she became the fourth official member of the crew.  The peace they had known their first month in their new home was shattered in the process. 

     

    Kit, Shane, Max, Helena, Alice, Tasha and Jenny would drop by unannounced on some wedding related errand and join them for dinner only to be joined by a few others before any given night was through.  The two bedroom two and a half bath guest house attached to the garage was put to a use they had not intended. Bette had originally planned on converting it to a studio/office space before they talked about hiring a full time nanny.  Before they knew it Max discovered it and threw himself into reconnecting the plumbing, kitchen and electrical services. Helena brought in a deep cleaning service and it was immediately habitable.

     

    It became the natural planning headquarters.  It was not unusual in fact for the planning crew to meet there to review their lists and plan the next steps whether Bette and Tina were home or not.  They came and went as they pleased. As far as the wedding planning was concerned it was The Planet away from The Planet.  The more intense the interest in the wedding became the more important it became to have a space to meet where they could not be overheard. 

     

    Bette and Tina were so lost in their reconnecting that when they were finally sat down the Saturday before the engagement party they were shocked.

     

    “Three hundred and twenty two positive responses?” Tina’s mouth dropped open.

     

    “The Four Seasons for the weekend?” Bette recoiled.

     

    They immediately sought each other’s hand.   

    “Woman up” Tasha barked in her best command voice then dissolved into laughter.

    4. Just wonderful. Will they ever come up for air? Maybe now with 320 guests they will pay more attention to the details and not let the family blow it completely out of proportion. Actually only 320 guests I am surprised, I thought it might be more, after all between the two of them they know most of the influential people in LA. This wedding is going to be some production, and as fine as it will be, it still can’t top Tina main, most exclusive production of her very own, “a little Kennard Porter” thru and thru. Won’t that be a beautiful child? Post when you can.

    8. I love how the gang works. Nothing is too good for one of their own, actually two of their own. I thought that Angelica carried the Kennard-Porter name. If so I would hope that the new baby would also carry the Kennard-Porter name. I can’t wait for more of this story.
