Five Ways to End It – Part One: Lie, Lie, Lie

    It started with a kiss.

Perhaps it wouldn’t be strictly accurate to say that; perhaps it was more accurate to say that it started when Bette first shook Tina’s hand. Or, maybe that it began even later, when Bette fished a wayward earring from Tina’s hair…

It certainly continued when that same earring was later lost—or left, depending on who would later tell the story—and when it was found, afterwards, at The Bette Porter Gallery.

But, if pressed, Tina would definitely say that the real beginning was with that kiss. The kiss that in turns surprised, shocked, thrilled her in a way that she’d never experienced before. The kiss that made her want more, instantly. The kiss, that was so intense for all its brevity, and that also carried with it the knowledge that it shouldn’t, couldn’t, happen again.

As Bette leaned in for another kiss, and Tina hungrily returned it, she realized that whatever had been started between them, it was definitely going to have to end.

Tina thought that she’d be happier. That there would be some epiphany, some breathless declaration of forever. Something to mark such a monumental event.

The breathlessness was still there, yes, as were the post-orgasmic tremors she didn’t think would ever subside, but Tina didn’t know how she felt at the moment. She wanted to sing, laugh, shout nonsensical things to knowledgeless passers-by. She wanted to cry. She felt shaky, exhilarated. Like she’d been flying in her skin. Tina supposed she had been doing just that: flying… which made this resulting crash an inevitability.

She really didn’t know how she should be feeling.

Tina belatedly became aware that Bette was looking at her.

    “You okay?” Bette asked.

“Of course I am.” Tina tried to sound reassuring, and apparently it worked. She pulled herself up into sitting position, holding the rumpled sheet over her chest, as if modesty really mattered now. She wanted to go. She felt she had to, before Bette somehow tapped into Tina’s insecurities and pushed her away. “What time is it?” she asked.

“A little after eight. Why? Do you have somewhere to go?” Bette smiled at her and stroked Tina’s back. Tina barely resisted the urge to squirm away. What’s wrong with me?

    1. Dazzling beginning…when Tina left Bette I thought the story was going to take a completely different direction – back toward conflicted emotions with Eric. I was intrigued by Tina’s immediate call back to Bette and her denial of her “experimentation” just made me laugh! PPS

    2. Great beginning, love the flirty dialogue. Too bad for Tina though that she won’t be keeping those resolutions. By the way, definitely better than the macaroni glued to paper or even a macaroni necklace!

    3. That was very nicely done. I could see the entire scene right before my eyes and wouldn’t be surprised to find out that it was exactly as it happened. Thanks!

    4. Yeah Tina, keep telling yourself that you are not falling for Bette Porter or that you will not fall head over heals in love with her. Bette should put the earring in a frame to remind them of how they came to be.

    5. You write so well, omalley. I’m always so amazed at the different ways our writers imagine and re-imagine T&B beginnings. This was excellent. Thank you! PPS.

    6. And she definitely wasn’t going to let herself fall in love. *snort* Too late, Ms. Kennard. You’re headed in that direction, if not already there.

    7. Oh that was an interesting start. So Tina will not fall in love with Bette. Now that will I see. Great you start a new story. I love B&T Beginnging. But will you try sometime to finish you stories Something to be thankful for and Foundations. I would be thankful too. PPS

    8. What a great start to a B&T beginning. I can already tell that this is going to be a wonderful journey and I can’t wait to see where you take us.
