Five Ways to End It – Part Four: See How They Run

Tina fiddled with her spoon as she stirred some sugar into her tea. She glanced cautiously up at Bette. “So…”

“So.” Bette replied, reaching across the table and holding Tina’s hand. “Are you feeling better?”

Tina nodded, somewhat sheepishly. She hadn’t meant to break down in front of Bette like that, but was relieved that Bette hadn’t been put off. On the contrary, Bette had been understanding and very sweet. She’d held Tina for a while, then led her to the kitchen, sat her down and had made her the tea that Tina had sitting in front of her now. Tina had mopped up her face with the paper towel Bette had given her, and she was feeling the same way she always felt after she cried – a little tired, slightly embarrassed, but better than she had before. With Bette sitting across the table from her, holding her hand, things were taking on a much more positive perspective.

Tina sipped at her tea, then, looking Bette in the eyes, said, “I’m sorry about before. I don’t know what got into me. That isn’t the way I would have chosen to tell you, but at least now you know how I feel.” She set her cup down and tried to gather her thoughts. “I’d…” Tina cleared her throat. “I’d like to know how you’re feeling, Bette,” Tina said, knowing it sounded almost formal, but she was feeling a bit guarded.

Bette considered this, not breaking their gaze. “I care about you, Tina. A lot. I figured there would be some adjustment for you, dating a woman. But I’ll admit that I didn’t realize… I should have thought about how deeply it could affect you. I’m sorry.” Bette paused for a moment. “And I’m sorry about the misunderstanding tonight. I don’t like seeing you upset, and I don’t want to be the cause of your upset. I know I can be a little distant sometimes.” She gave Tina a wry smile. “I’ll work on it. I promise.”

Tina found herself smiling back. “Okay.” It was more than she had gotten from Bette so far. It was a start, anyway. Tina yawned involuntarily. “Sorry,” she said, embarrassed again.

Bette smiled, wider this time. “Don’t be,” she said, squeezing her hand. “Tina, I…” she started, looking down at their entwined hands for a moment, then shook her head. She held Tina’s hand up to her lips and kissed it twice. “I’ll see myself out.”

    1. I can’t speak for anybody else, but I thought Bette not saying anything sooner was assy. As for Tina, she does need to decide if she wants to be out or not.

    2. I’ve been following this story and happy to see you post. Bette needs to express her feeling what ever it is to Tina as she has opened up to Bette the previous chapter if i’m not mistaken…..These two needs to talk and stop playing cat and mice chase…..Maybe we could read Bette’s POV next chap or is this just About Tee’s side….Anyway…..Thanks for posting…..I feel like I want to smack this two on the head…PPS

    3. WOW!!! I just caught up!!! Both of them B&T need to sit down and really talk. But, maybe some time apart would not hurt. Tina needs to make up her mind very soon. Thanks PPVS

    4. soooo glad you posted omalley, this is one of my favourites and one of the reasons it is is because it so true to life i think, people be cagey with their feeling out of trying to protect yourself then second guessing what the other feels but after two months i’m glad they’re starting to open up more even though it just seems to be all bad stuff at the moment! i’m not happy that Tina’s going away from LA though – that just takes her further away from Bette! pps

    5. I agree with Bette on this one. Tina seems to comfortable riding the fence indefinitely. She needs to make a decision whether she truly wants to commit to Bette and their relationship or give her focus to the movie biz. I can’t wait to see what happens when she comes back…

    6. You’re breaking my heart! Tina start screaming it from the rooftops that you love her, or your going to loose her! Hope you figure that out in NYC!PPS

    7. Some things you can’t hide and Tina wants the best of both world. I can see where Bette is coming from. Tina can also.but something isholding her back. She really needs to make a choice. thanks

    8. If this isn’t the inverse of the Pancha equation, I don’t know what is. Tina is the bewildered one, slow to the dance, in this story. I’m loving it! I wish I could read more (hint). My eyes will be available tomorrow evening for reading more of Tina’s travails (broader hint). Your Bette has her pride, but she’s very decent about giving Tina her space. I’m intrigued to see how Tina will handle it in NYC. Thanks!

    9. As I mentioned before, you have been on my list of favorite authors. I guess I’ll need to refresh the rolodex that is my memory. I’m really enjoying this story.

    10. This chapter left me feeling a bit pissed off! Bette does have a point and I would have to agree with her even if they both are acting like children!!!!

    11. Tina’s mind feels like a labyrinth and her heart is in shambles. But there must be something in her that Bette finds so endearing. I hope the haze in Tina’s mind will start to clear up in New York and in turn, I hope Bette will be more fortright about her feelings, be less vague on her intentions. Relationship is a two-way street, right? Loved Bette’s “Don’t stop” pet name. ;> Thank you for this update, omalley! Sad but well-written and enjoyable as always. Pls post whenever you can. :>

    12. Let’s hope the time apart makes B&T realize that they mean so much more to each other than they are willing to admit…. and be open about their feelings for one another. Thank you for the awesome update. pps.

    13. Passive? Let me introduce you to Aggressive. I think you’ll get along just great! They’re both running… too bad it’s in the opposite direction. I’m forwarding a shipment of flu shots and other antivirals to your muse. Love the story. Thanks for the chapter.

    14. Tina seems to be a dear caught in the headlights of a car. Tina has been out for a what couple of months? Bette has been out for years, Bette is comfortable in her own skin…I think Bette could have supported Tina more. I really feel sorry for Tina she has no friends or family that she can go to to talk to, that’s not good IMO, she has tried her best to talk to Bette but I just feel that Bette has been dismissive of Tina in this chapter. A most enjoyable story. Thank you!

    15. Life is getting much more harder for both women for different reasons theyre both not saying what truly is on their mind instead overriding this state of matter and filling up this up small talk and sex.I hope this trip to New York for both woman gives the times to think things through thoroughly and come to a decision for it to be either make or simply break. Bett does deserve to not feel shunned into a corner but then from Tina’s perspective I see how she is feeling I think most of us were there once upon a time. Its a hard transition to make, but once you do life seems so much more comfortable and true. Cant wait for more.

    16. Great chapter – I love that they are so long. These two really have to talk honestly – seems like they tip toe around the real truth. I can’t wait to see where this story takes them! PPS

    17. Finally read the previous chapter last night after spending what felt like forever trying to remember the story title and author. LMAO Time to read this one now. :D

    18. i love love this story! its realistic and not over the top tibette love youre one of my favorite authors ever. with this final season going dismally the way it is, authors like you and stories like yours are where i take refuge to seek tibette!

    19. What a great story. I can totally relate to Tina’s state of mind, and how it’s not really about dealing with Bette, but with all the different voices in her head pulling her in different directions. Thanks and please keep going.
