Chapter 32
I was anxious to see how Bette would be with me at work. I didn’t know how my kiss and quick touch on her breast would make her feel around me, once she had time to think about it. I dreaded she would decide not to take on the art project after all. On the Monday morning before rounds, while I was getting caught up with what happened to my patient’s overnight, I sought out eye contact to get a sense of her mood. To my surprise and much happiness, she smiled and I think even winked at me. I had a knot form in my stomach right away at her smile. At least it seemed we were still in good position.
Papi was her usual boisterous self and asked me to go to one of the local Mexican restaurants that was known for its authentic cuisine. She had been asking me to go out with her since we first met but I always declined but my new dating mantra made me give her request serious consideration. She reassured me she would be on her best behavior but also Carmen and a few other residents would be attending that evening so I could be assured I would be “safe”. Papi’s humorous persistence made me laugh and I agreed to go, with the assumption this was more of an outing with several residents than a real date with Papi. Not that a date with Papi would be something bad but I thought if I did go on a date with her, it should not be in her territory. I needed to neutralize her machismo energy and meet in a more neutral, albeit, bland location, if we were to go on a real date. I did confirm with Carmen that indeed she would be there that night, so I felt comfortable with the plan. I continued to debate in my mind whether this was a date or not but decided not to perseverate on it.
Papi on the other hand definitely viewed it as a date and in short time had announced it to the team and seemingly the entire nursing staff on the floor that we would be going to this amazing Mexican restaurant together. When the team rounded as a group on patients I noticed the smile I saw in Bette’s eyes earlier was gone. Even more she avoided my gaze all through rounds. When we broke from rounds to go off and complete our work, Papi threw out a slight blow directed at Bette. “You see Brown Barbie, I told you she’d be mine by the end of the month.”

Bette Porter is the jealous kind and not hiding it very well, especially if Papi can read it from far away. And Helena just take the bull by the horns and make Bette your woman cause she is so waiting for you and you her,,,,hehehe, great chapter S I missed reading it ;)
Hey S, Helena just wants to make Bette jealous and deep down inside of Bette its working. They’re both jealous of one anothers love life. The art is all we have to focus on, which is a good thing…but maybe Helena in some way is slightly dillusional that Bette will fall in love with her and they will live happily ever after. I hope the condo works out for Hels though. As for Papi she certainly has the eye for love, and both of the ladies have got it in their eyes. Great update though I enjoyed it.
Jeeezzzzz…Squirl…you know exactly what to write to make my little Belena heart go pitter-patter. Aaaggghhhhh!!! Bette is so jealous she can barely see straight (pun intended) any more. Loving it! Hope this Helena dating phase is over fast and more Belena action is on the horizon.
Does anyone have any idea of why Papi refers to herself in 3rd person? lol! She is such a mess…but is inadvertently helping Helena’s case. I’m not sure Bette knows why she is reacting the way she is…boyfriend who? But…but, umm will we run back into Tina or someone to amp up this little jealousy chess match? Focus on the art, there Helena? Riiiight…lol! Very nice..PPS!
OK Squirl I have fallen behind but now that I am all caught up I have a question: I am anxious to know if perhaps Raquel might be at this little gathering that Papi is going to take Helena on the date to? Yep, still missing her. After all were only 1/2 way there so we must have many more encounters before Hels finds her true love. Hope your feeling better. Thank you, Md aka Oma

Forget about the mantra and go for Bette! Friends really don’t get jealous for no reason. It especially doesn’t apply to Bette as she seem to be open minded. Open minded to everything except for her “might be feelings” for Helena. Thanks for the post! I absolutely loved it!

Yea, new post!!!!So sorry i’m just now getting to it, been wrapped up in my lady love for the past week ;) we don’t get to see each other much, you understand. But I digress, love the post saddend it was so short. Absolutely love Bette being jealous, it’s totally becoming obvious that she has very strong feelings for Helena. If only she would admit it to herself & to Helena. And on that note, Helena actually forgetting about Bette? Yeah right, oh how the plot thickens.
