    First Year- Chapter 12

    Chapter 12

Life as an intern seemed to settle into a nice pace. The end of the month was approaching and at that point I had survived the CCU. Like Henry said, it really wasn’t too bad after all. After my first month of crazy-Kroll, anything would seem easier. My uncle was very enthusiastic about hearing my thoughts. I told him I thought it was great and I didn’t want to kill his hopes too much but I wanted to experience more before I committed to any subspecialty. At the hospital, no one would suspect there was anything going on between Carmen and me other than us being close childhood friends. I began to notice Alice, the eccentric social worker, hanging around the CCU quite a bit. She was facilitating all the patients into cardiac rehab or whatever discharge needs they had. I noticed Dana’s patient’s seemed to get into rehab faster than the rest of ours.  Dana remained quiet about why it was Alice seemed to get her patient’s social service needs much faster than mine or Janice’s.

Dana finally got the second opinion on her back pain and a repeat MRI was ordered. She had it completed around lunch and at the end of the day we strolled to the radiology department to check it out. We were no experts but it seemed there were more lumps than we expected to see. We tracked down a radiology resident who thought we were reviewing just any other patient’s report. He studied it then told us, “It could be a number of different things but I would bet lymphoma. Is the patient having any fever or weight loss? Any night sweats?”

Dana answered just above a whisper, “Sometimes.”

He confidently continued, “I would definitely bet it’s lymphoma. Let me know what it turns out. There looks like there are a couple of nodes in the groin so they should be able to biopsy those easily.”

I looked at Dana who was as white as a ghost. I tried to shake her out of her trance, “Dana, remember he said it could be a lot of things.”

Her tears began to flow steadily. “I noticed the swelling in my groin and I thought it was from my new kitten’s scratches on my leg.”

    1. Noooo not Dana…please Squirl, tell us that we will not have to say goodbye to her again! Please tell me that this is straight forward…completely curable and is not a case fit for the craziness of Dr. House! This day at Drama Central was definitely action packed…and Dr. Peabody seems to be settling into the complication that is her life…of course it would be extremely ugly for her to use the wrong name with Dylan….and now when are they gonna have that little heart to heart? Tomorrow? lol! Oohh, Tina is seems to be quite competent but a little predatory and omnivorous andddd Carmen just uttered the L word…oui! Alright, here we go! PPS

    2. Shame on Henry not catching the tamponade because of restricted blood flow to his brain. Or something. When it came to PEA, he was a pea-brain. Good thing Blondie had her wits about her. Naughty residents! (Know anybody back here to help me get hired?)I’m glad YOUR Dana had the sense to seek medical attention.

    3. Oohhh…wow…fantastic inclusion of Dana’s illness in the story, Squirl. The portrayal is certainly accurate. Helena seems to be overly generous of her time these days — I wonder how that will end up affecting her performance as a resident. I was shocked to learn about her name confusion — I probably would have done a little bit more than bite her lip if I were in Carmen’s shoes. So Carmen was the first to state her love; I’m expecting Helena to be in a lot of emotional pain in the upcoming chapters as she realizes that Carmen isn’t just a friend for her either. Helena is really on a rollercoaster ride. I’m so lovin’ Tina’s flirting with Helena — and Henry has got to go — not only did he leave his woman unsatisfied, he botched the diagnosis! Ewwww….

    4. S once again an excellent chapter, going to Dana first because how could you let her get sick,,,,LOL I see that Helena’s heart is changing about Dylan as is her thought’s IMO. Very good chapter S!

    5. Awesome chapter. If I were that heart patient that almost died because my dr. was off screwing behind closed doors and didn’t want to take the time to see me, I would be pissed beyond words. At least he had Helena on his side trying to figure out the problem. I love sexy, flirty, Tina. Carmen’s in love, love with Helena, I think. What it must be like to have all these beautiful women falling at your feet. Sigh! And I would really hate to see Dana die, again. PPS!!

    6. Oh no….please don’t let anything happen to Dana…not again…whoa…H and C are heating up ‘eh…cute…but you know this should be a BeLena…okay…can we agree (big smile)!!!
