Fears Tears, and Years
“Kasey I would be more than happy to
help Tina in any way that I can but she may not be comfortable with that Kasey.
She may not want me to stay. I will gladly stay if it is what she wants but I
think we should ask her first.”
“That’s fair Bette. I am going to
wake her so she can eat her dinner and then we will talk. This is a decision
that we all need to reach quickly. I am hoping she will see it that way too but
we’ll see.”
Later that evening as Kasey came
out of Tina’s room carrying her dinner tray she smiled at Angie and she knew
without being told that their plan was a go. Her mom had agreed to allow Bette
to care for her until she could manage on her own.
The next morning Angie and Maggie
took a cab to the airport and by that afternoon they called Kasey to let her
know they had made it home safely.
Bette spent the afternoon on the
phone making arrangements with the head chancellor of Yale University finding
someone to fill in for her for the next two months. As she sat on the side of
the bed with her phone pressed to her ear she thought how ironic it was to find
herself back in LA after all this time.
After dinner Kasey stayed with Tina
while Bette went out to run a few errands while she was not needed. She knew
soon she would not have this luxury once Kasey went home.
Stopping by the mall she picked up
some more clothing that she would need. Most of the things she bought were
casual but she did buy herself one dress in case later Tina might feel like
going out to dinner just to get out of the house.
As an after thought she stopped by
an art store and picked up a few basic supplies so she could continue painting
if she found the time while Tina was resting.
The next afternoon it was time for
Kasey to go home. Although the good bye with Tina was very tearful she promised
she would be back soon and would call daily to check on her not that she was
worried because she was leaving her in very capable hands of that she was sure.
