    The last chapter – Bette comes home. (And thanks so much for the spotlight! I can’t tell you all how happy I am!!!)

    Alice grumbled in agreement, and they both walked out to Shane’s truck to put Tina’s things in the back just as Shane took out another cigarette and lit it for some relaxation. All of the drama was getting to her.

    “Why do you do that to yourself?” Alice asked with disgust.

    “You know you want it,” Shane chuckled, holding it out to Alice who screamed and leaned back in response.

    Just as they were both laughing at each other, a cab pulled up beside Shane’s truck, and Bette leapt out of it, practically throwing money at the driver before turning to the apartment building. She breathed in and wanted to cry – it had seemed like years since she’d seen the place, or since it looked quite the same. Although she didn’t remember all of the details, the truth of some other life was still inside of her, as well as the fact that it seemed like ages since she’d seen the beautiful blond. The world was full of possibilities.

    “What the fuck? …” Alice gasped, looking to Bette with confusion. Tina had said she’d seen the plane leave the day before – so what was Bette doing there? Being the insistent friend she was, Alice didn’t want Bette to upset Tina any further, and took a step forward. “She’s not doing very well, Bette.”

    Bette seemed unaffected by her words, just gazing up at the sturdy building before her. She couldn’t help but smile, like she’d found what she’d been searching all her life for. “Tina …” The driver brought her bag around, shaking his head. He could very well have driven off with it, for all the attention she gave it. Thankfully he could see her mind was in another place, and had a conscience. Maybe it had been in part because of her generous tip.

    Bette just stared toward the building, ignoring her suitcase. She didn’t need her things – she needed Tina.

    “Yeah, she’s really fucked up,” Shane agreed, shaking her head.

    Bette still ignored them, pinpointing the window of the room they used to share, imagining what looked like inside. “Tina?” She called out to the building itself, in the hopes that Tina might actually hear her.

    “She’s … not here,” Alice said unconvincingly, both hands on her hips. “You need to call her or something. It’s not fair putting her through all of this, and in the span of like two days.”
