    Discovering Aphrodite – Chapter 2

    Bette studied the map, deciding which local attraction to go to first.  There seemed a lot of places she wanted to visit but wanted to stay closer to the town today, maybe make firmer plans the following day to go further afield.

     

    She glanced up at the clear blue sky, closing her eyes to the sun as the warmth covered her skin. She sighed slightly, almost changing her mind about going out at all as the need to laze in the sun overwhelmed her. 

     

    “Later…, lie by the pool for an hour later…” she said quietly to herself as she made her way to the hire car that had been booked with the holiday all those months ago.

     

    Bette took in her surroundings as she drove through the town towards the ‘Tomb of the Kings’, following the large brown tourist signs through the busy streets.  She was at the entrance before she knew it, not realising how close to the hotel and town it was.

     

    She decided it would be a good idea to walk into the town later, having noticed the myriad of restaurants leading to the harbour area. Maybe if she got the opportunity to get to know Tina better during the week she would invite her out for a meal…

     

    But that would only be if they bumped into one another again. She had noticed the time she had gone to breakfast earlier and made a mental note to herself that she would try again that time tomorrow. It seemed a shame to waste an opportunity to spend some time with a gorgeous woman, not that she had any intentions of that when she had boarded the plane alone of course, it was a ‘clear the head’ holiday, it just happened that they had sat together at breakfast and seemed to get along in an effortless way.

     

    Bette paid her entrance fee and made her way over the gravelly surface to the first of the Tombs, peering down the deep cavernous steps, suddenly seeing the rectangular cut outs in the solid rock. 

     

    She stood up straight, glancing at her guide book, reading how the large cut outs were for the adults bodies and the smaller for the children. A shiver ran through her as she glanced back, taking in the magnitude of what would have been all those years ago.
