    Dear Diary- 6

    Dear Diary,

I am crushed, we had our first fight.  A stupid one too.

Bette brought me home after our date and came in my apartment with me, nothing out of the ordinary right?  She then noticed the cards and the almost fully wilted roses on my dining room table and asked what they were for.  I told her the truth, my birthday.

She turned her head quickly in surprise and looked at me like I had two heads.  “Your birthday?”

    “Yeah, it was last Friday.”

“It was your birthday and you didn’t tell me.  T, we were together the whole weekend and not once did you think to tell me that it was your birthday?  Why would you do that?”

“It just never crossed my mind.”

    “Didn’t cross your mind?”

“Mmm hmm, I was too busy spending time with my girlfriend and not really thinking about the date.”

“Tina, seriously how could you not tell me about your birthday?  We’ve been together for over two months now and never have you mentioned your birthday.  You told me both your sisters’ birthdays and never yours.  Why wouldn’t you tell your girlfriend your birthday?”

“My birthday just isn’t really important to me.  As to telling you my sisters’ birthdays they are my sisters and I love them and love talking about them.  Plus theirs are memorable, Sarah’s is July 4th and Beka was born the day after Thanksgiving.  Mine is just May 23rd, nothing special about it.”

“Tina your birthday is special because it’s yours and it’s special to me because I love you, can’t you see that?”

“Really it’s no big deal Bette.”

“It is to me, you know what, and I’ve got to go.  Bye”

And so was our first fight, about my freakin birthday no less, seriously didn’t think it was a big deal though it just means that I survived another year on this planet.  I wouldn’t even celebrate it if not for the fact my parents send flowers to work for me every year and so the guys there figured out what they were for and make a big deal about it.  It’s just a day.

    Dear Diary,

So now it’s Friday, a week after my birthday and I haven’t spoken to Bette in two days.  It feels like an eternity and I know that I’m wrong but I don’t know how to say sorry and that I was wrong.  I keep thinking of a week ago and how I was with Bette, it was my birthday and I was with her.  Granted she didn’t know it was my birthday but honestly I really did forget the day.  The flowers from my parents arrived Wednesday; I hadn’t seen Bette since the week before and for whatever reason the date of my birthday never came up in the two months we’ve been together.  I don’t know her birthday either and am not making a big deal about that.  But I can somewhat understand what her point would be, if I were talking to her.  I mean we are in a relationship and should be sharing important things with each other but for whatever reason our ages, birthday and some other things that could be seen as important haven’t been discussed.  I think I am going to stop writing and go to see her, it’s late but I need to see her.
