    Rhaina went through a torrent of emotions as Kirk spoke.  She knew then that he spoke truly.  They were both guilty of loving themselves more than Spock who loved them both more than himself.  Spock was the only one who put the needs of those he loved ahead of himself. 

     

    “Kirk I hold no grudge against you.  You love him, as do I.  You have failed him as much as I.  I will yield him.  I would yield him to no one else.”  Rhaina grumbled.

     

    Kirk lifted his hazel eyes to Rhaina’s “I will take better care with him from now on.”

     

    “See that you do Kirk or you will answer to me.” Rhaina told him fiercely.

     

    “And me” Christina added moving to her mother’s side.

     

    “And me” Elizabeth took her place by Christina’s side.

     

    “Understood” Kirk squared his shoulders.

    Kirk settled next to Spock on the bed and placed his fingers as Rhaina instructed on the points of Spock’s face to initiate the mind meld. 

     

    Kirk did as he was instructed. The room fell away and he found himself on a cliff overlooking a vast canyon.  There at the edge Spock stood gazing out. 

     

    Kirk approached him cautiously.  Spock?

     

    The Vulcan turned and his eyes were tortured. What are you doing here?

     

    I came to get you.  Kirk replied.

     

    Over the hearts of my wife and daughter?

     

    With the hearts of your ex-wife and daughter, Rhaina has released you to me.

     

    Indeed?

     

    Feel it in our bond, it is just us now. 

     

    Spock felt it then, Rhaina was gone.  Curious he reached to Jim and the bond was clean and clear.  It vibrated and shimmered like a golden thread. 

     

    Kirk stepped closer but did not touch him. The final step had to be Spock’s.  Spock looked deep into the hazel eyes and raised his hands to the meld points on Jim’s face.

     

    Parted from me and never parted…touching and touched…I await you.  Kirk was immediately back in Spock’s bedroom.

     

    “Jim!” Spock bolted upright in the bed.
