Daughters of Kirk and Spock, Resumes post 17

“Captain to the Bridge.  Red Alert.  Red Alert.  This is not a drill.” Lt. Peabody’s voice rang out over the vessel. “Red Alert.”

Without hesitation they moved as one.

“Status report” Porter snapped seating herself in the command chair that Fairbanks quickly vacated.  Kennard quickly took over the science station and instituted a deep scan while downloading the most recent reports.

“We are on course for Starbase 12 and long range scanners are activated…”

“Standard operating procedure, Lt.” Porter snapped, cutting her off midsentence.  “Why are we at red alert?  I see nothing on the viewscreen to raise us to such status.”

Fairbanks swallowed, the Captain always intimidated her.  “In the scan we came across a Fleet of several hundred perhaps a thousand vessels on a trajectory to the planet Vulcan.”

“What?” Porter looked at the screen.  All she saw was stars.

“Replaying images now, Captain.”  Kennard interjected.

“On screen.” Porter took a deep breath. The somber tone in Kennard’s voice put her on red alert.

The image reeled through.  The concentration of lights at first seemed consistent with dense star groupings but as the enhanced image played through it was obvious that what at first glance appeared to be stars were not moving in a manner stars behaved but rather as vessels.  Then in a instant the screen went black.  Or more accurately a quadrant on the screen went black and now appeared occupied by a dark moving cloud.

“Lt. Fairbanks assessment is accurate Captain.  There are one thousand cloaked vessels on a direct course to Vulcan.”

Rau surveyed the great hall and was astounded by the laughter and high spirits that filled the palace. The Sovereigns of Romulus and Rhemus extended a last minute invitation to the best and brightest of the Empire.

Late comers were still arriving and the earliest guests appeared to be having a great time.  Both Sovereigns surprised her with their graciousness and hospitality.  The Twin Queens operated in concert and each guest was graced by a private word with one or the other.  The most hardened warriors as well as the most vocal critics of the monarchy had smiles of satisfaction after speaking with their Queens.

Rau personally detailed the Royal Guard this evening.  She kept a close eye on Rachael and Terrance and everyone they spent any amount of time with.  To her satisfaction those who gravitated towards them first did not return once they had a word with a Queen. Those who met with Rhaina or Rheana first avoided their company afterward.

The only issue that caused her concern was the subtle discomfort she read in Queen Rhaina when her husband and Consort Spock was near.  She understood theirs was a love match.  Watching them this eve it seemed otherwise.  There was a clear connection between the two that spoke of decades of intimacy yet there was a stiffness that appeared like they were both wearing a new pair of shoes that were not yet comfortable.

The lightness and laughter of the evening came to an abrupt halt as all the heads of security forces of all the services received the same alert at the same time. “Code Red” Romulan Command Central overrode her prearranged security channel.  “Code Red”

Rau flew into motion, switching channels to Ferrier and the newly appointed sub-commanders, Rioter and Rexene. “Secure the Queens.” The Royal Guard moved.  Rau moved to the head of the formation. “Make way for the Queens of Romulus and Rhemus.” A corridor was quickly made and was composed of officers of every service ready to defend their Queens.  When Rau would have led them to a more secure setting Rhaina turned and asked to be escorted to the stage of the great hall.

“Brothers and Sisters, we are advised that a Federation planet is the target of an invasion force of vessels numbered to be one thousand strong.  We are asked to lend all immediate assistance and to secure our quadrant.” Rau approached and murmured softly to the Queens who both stiffened alarming those gathered in the hall.

Rheana spoke as the shock was too great for Rhaina. “We have just been informed that the targeted planet is Vulcan.”

    1. Funnyone I like your comment.Gee over 1,000 ships headed to Vulcan. I wonder who it could be. the Klingons maybe?I continue to enjoy this version of Star Trek. We need our own nickname as fans of this story.

    2. I have no doubt that they will be able to defend their world. After all, we do have two generations of Starfleet Commanders in the service of their world with spouses and children to love, protect, and serve. I know you will help them protect their loved ones and their world. Enjoying the story. Thanks for posting.

    4. Hmm, maybe some honor is about to be earned by Captain Porter… Sounds like quite a battle is brewing. Speaking of brews, I’m awfully fond of Porter…

    5. I’ll take the no shout-outs for longer posts any day… I’ll be able to live with that. This seems like a full blown war.. you’re going to make it better right:) Thank you!

    6. Yes indeed…tomorrow has come! Sounds like there is a big storm brewing with Vulcan as the intended. I wonder how one star fleet vessel will fair against a thousand ships…I’m staying tuned for tomorrow’s update. Kelika…fabulous again…I get that old Star Trek feeling reading it.

    7. “Rexene” Sounds like a sistah-girl Romulan. I love that name! I can feel the tension mounting. You write a great adventure/love fic, Kelika! If it means I get my daily post, you can skip my shout-out, though I do love to see my name in the author’s notes! “Rexene to the bridge” I love the sound of it!

    8. First, I vote for no shout-outs and longer chappies! The ladies on the Enterprise and the planet Vulcan are certainly in a heck of a mess. I hope the fleet is able to rally everyone to defend those pointy-eared folks.

    9. I have to say that I never really watched Star Trek, but I do really like this story. Funny thing, I live about 35 minutes away from a town called Vulcan, where they have Star Trek ocnventions yearly, and have all kinds of memorabilia of the show thoughout the town. You 1000 ships is close tot he population of that town. LOL

    10. This is serious. The Star Ship Enterprise and now the Queens and their followers are all on Red Alert. Maybe Kirk and Spock will return to duty and help their offspring stop Evil from taking over.

    11. I definitely never thought that I’d like a story that featured Star Trek, but the way you write it is compelling. Initially I wasn’t too sure whether I’d get into it because I didn’t understand the jargon as I haven’t really watched Star Trek. But just like the rest of your stories I love this one and can’t stop reading. Thanks.

    12. I can see how the Romulans are sort of honor-bound to help out a fellow federation planet, but Rhaina must be a little bit torn that she’s got to help her cheating spouse’s people, right after he’s betrayed her. Someone like Rachael would have the fleet stand down cos she’s a petty so and so, but Rhaina is regal through and through. She’ll bail out Vulcan and clean up whatever Capt. Porter has left in the Enterprise’s wake. Great chapter, more soon please. Thanks

    13. Hey Kelika, The tension is mounting as details of this dastardly plot are revealed. Great to see Bette and Tina fly into action after a heart to heart. There will always be a conflict for Tina: the Federation of her royal duties. Bette is there to support her whatever choice she makes. Now I just want to read more. Please post soon. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.

    14. And the drama escalates!! You do So much with short posts. This has been such a fun story to follow. I love the balance you give to both the overall story and to THE couple! You manage to create sparks between them even in th emost innocent & serious of situations. Thank you so much for you gift.

    15. Perhaps they should instruct the people of vulcan to lie down on the floor with paper bags on their head…its doubtful that it would help but still its amazing what you can learn from the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy…lol just caught up with this story and love it! I’m a new recruit to the the star trek/wars fanbases so I was excited to see this crossover. Thanks!

    16. Great story, exciting post and now the film Star Trek is coming to cinema soon. The new Capitan is Kirk’s son, imagine if it was Kirks daughter. PPS
