Daughters of Kirk and Spock, post 11

Bette was seething by the time they reached the Royal Consort’s chambers.  The minute the doors closed she rounded on the Director.

“You Madam will explain yourself.”  She pulled off the ceremonial gloves and the literal ones came off too.

“What is there to explain Captain?”  Katrina replied calmly.  “My responsibility is to protect The Crown Princess.  This scenario works perfectly for me.  If any harm befalls Ms. Kennard it will be on your head and the Princess will be safe.  Ms. Kennard will suffer all the risks that will be faced in transit and the Princess will be safe.  You will truly be motivated to ensure that does not happen as it is Ms. Kennard who is at risk.  Somehow I sense that you will not allow any harm to come to her.  I could not be so sure of your protection of my Princess.”

Bette wanted to throttle her but every word she spoke was truth.  It was an ideal situation for the Crown Princess and a nightmare for her.  Katrina implied that she knew that the relationship between Christina and herself was deeper than Captain and First Officer.  That was irrelevant she rolled her shoulders to release the tension which had knotted there.

“Captain, the Director makes a highly logical argument.”  Christina said dispassionately.  “Your anger is not logical.”

“Of course it’s not logical.” Bette fired back at her.  “What I feel is far from logical.  I lo…”

“Captain” Christina cut her off.  “Perhaps there is a benefit to my playing decoy for the princess.  You would seem the brilliant strategist to deliver the princess to her throne no matter the outcome of the challenges we may face in transit.  I am concerned that the Royal Vessel according to my research is not armed.”

“What???” Bette exploded. She rounded on Williams her security specialist.  “How is it that I am just hearing this?”

Williams cringed at her Captain’s ire.  “Maam, since I assumed that we would not actually escort the Princess to Antares that it was not relevant to our briefing this morning.”

“Ensign” her voice was cold as ice. “You are to report all relevant security information at a briefing.  Would you care to brief us now?”
