“Shit.”
Bette pulled into the driveway and glanced next door. She saw Alice, Dana and Shane sitting on the front porch. The last thing she wanted was to answer a hundred and one questions about her weekend. Trying her best to look worn out from work and work alone, she slowly climbed out of the car.
“Hi guys.” Bette waved casually.
“Hey Bette. How was the trip?” Alice asked.
Bette shrugged. “How much fun can work be?”
“Would you like to join us?” Shane offered.
Bette walked over to the porch. “I don’t think so. I’m pretty tired.”
“You look… really good.” Shane nodded and cocked her head to the side, studying Bette.
Blushing slightly, Bette looked away and laughed. “Well, thanks. As good as a person can look after a whirlwind weekend.”
Alice looked Bette up and down as well. “Hm. Shane’s right.”
“Well, I should get inside to see Angelika. It looks like Kit is over.”
“Don’t be a stranger.” Shane said as Bette walked away.
At the front door, Bette took a deep breath to calm her nerves. Her heart was racing and she felt like she was in high school again, sneaking around with her girlfriend behind her parents’ backs.
“Hello?” Bette called out as she opened the door. She dropped her bag and saw Angelika on the floor with Kit.
“Hey baby sis! Someone missed you.” Kit stood up to hug her and handed Angelika over.
Bette kissed her daughter and held her tight. “I missed you so much. How was everything?”
“I just love that baby. We had a great weekend.”
“Good, thanks so much for watching her.”
Kit looked at Bette. “Damn you look good. What kind of work did you have to do this weekend?”
Bette blushed again and looked down. “The usual. It was very busy. And I certainly don’t feel like I look good.”
“If I didn’t know any better I would have thought you went away and had fun.” Kit pressed.
“Work, work, work. You know me.” Bette tried to change the subject. “So tell me what happened while I was gone.”

You capture so well the essence of all the characters, at least as I remember them in season 1, or as I would like them to be, still. This story is a refreshing journey back to good memory lane. A pleasure to read and ride with you. Thank you.

ROFLOL…I knew there would be a great “punchline” ending to this one. That was great! I so agree with Technie, the Porters sisters are wonderful together. The only thing remotely close is a sane Alice and Bette or Al and Dana (S1). Ah, the wonders of verbal and non-verbal communication!!

Just catching up…love this story! I’m confused though…didn’t Bette arrive at home in a taxi and go right inside after just waving to the girls in the last chapter? How’d she end up in another car arriving home? Anyway, sorry for nitpicking…I really DO love this story!

THIS is my Bette, THIS is my Kit. Like many observed, these are the characters and this is the relationship from S1 that we have sorely missed. Would it have KILLED the producers to just have these two sisters play off each other without all the excess sturm und drang entering their lives? The scenes with Jennifer and Pam together brought out the best in both of them. Now, they are twisted beyond belief and almost recognition. I miss the Porter Sisters. Thanks for bringing them back!

Bette, you can’t play a player and Kit is the ultimate P-L-A-Y-E-R!! LOL! When Kit asks, “Have you and TIna always worn the same perfume? ” I was grinning from ear to ear. Shane’s caught on and Alice is catching on….but Kit is the master. She knows her babysis better than anyone! PPS.
