Cure-all, Chapter 5
CHAPTER 5
They were now seated side by side on a beautiful white bench facing the parapet, which was offering a stunning view of the hills and the ocean. The night was clear and the gentle breeze softly caressed their skin.
After sitting, they had fallen into a confortable silence, yet the tension was still present.
"Are you married, Bette?" Tina asked suddenly.
The brunette was slightly taken aback by the question. She had always been opened about her sexuality, and to be honest, it wasn’t the kind of question she was asked every day.
"I’m sorry" Tina hurriedly added, "I guess that it’s a stupid question to ask, since you came here as Alice’s date."
"No, no, it’s a perfectly legitimate question. Alice is a great friend, and had I been straight, I would have come as her date anyway." Bette replied.
"But no, I am not married." She continued, "Although, I guess I could be, right? You proved it today."
"Yes… I did." Tina commented, with a tint of… uncertainty? Bette wasn’t sure, but she knew that entertaining this kind of thoughts was NOT a good idea. She went on,
"To tell you the truth, I have never really thought about marriage. Or any other type of long-term commitment, for that matter. I guess I’m far too involved and passionate about my work. It takes a lot of my time and attention."
"Or maybe you just haven’t met the right person." The blonde offered shyly.
Bette turned to her. She was very aware that Tina’s remark was more of a statement than a question. She stared at the young bride and realized how much she wanted nothing more than to get lost in those hazel eyes. This woman affected her in ways that she had never felt before.
The train of her thoughts scared her as much as it elated her.
"No, maybe I haven’t." She answered softly.
They kept looking at each other. Much longer than necessary in fact, which both women were aware of, but it seemed like neither one wanted to – or even could – break the spell.
Some distant guests’ cheering coming from the dance floor brought them back to the present, and they both looked down simultaneously with a shy smile.
Bette decided that it was probably safer to keep the conversation flowing.
"So tell me about you, Tina. What do you do?"
"Oh, I’m a journalist. World news to be exact. I’ve spent many years abroad, mostly covering conflicted areas. I’ve always been very passionate about my job. But it kept me away from the people I love, and when my grandfather got sick a few years ago, it took me far too long to get back to him. That’s when I realized I couldn’t go on like this. He is okay now, but I asked to be relocated here anyway."

I wonder how long Tina’s denial will last? I LOL when she purposed that Bette hadn’t met the right woman – she certainly didn’t marry the right one. I hope you are able to post again soon. I’m anxious to see how Tina queries Bette…
I’m really liking this story. PPS!
Okay, I know that Tina just got married and it is still her wedding day, but Bette is more of her type than Helena. Heck Helena is not even aware that Tina is not within the walls of the wedding party.
Maybe Tina had her fingers crossed during her vows and she can call “Do-overs!” ???
K, I’m sure you were dreading BetteandTinaforever’s question ! Hahaha ! Are you gonna dare answering that one ? ( raising eyebrow ) ? Just kidding ! Just kidding ! Je suis sûre que ça ne peut pas être pire que mes casseroles… Luckily for you, I have a feeling the series never aired abroad and thus was never translated into English… Am I wrong ? Oh, and by the way, does Pappy still speak with an Alsacian accent ?!! I mean, Alsacian accent in English must be absolutely priceless !! You have to post an audio file here, K ! LOL ! Anyway, I loved the chapter as usual and I can’t wait for more. Oh, and I have a feeling Bette and Tina’s Pappy are gonna get along very well, probably way too well for Helena’s taste in fact…
That was great, B&T are so cute. Hope they will be together soon. Please more, thanks!
too bad helena will be off some where and bette and tina will be having fun… i agree with valenkat7… an annullmaent is just around the corner… PPS
I predict an annullment in the future for Tina as she is falling for Bette already and Bette is falling for her. but I’m sure there’s much more drama to be had before that ever happens! PPS
Wonderful chapter, KWord. I love the openness and honesty in T&B’s conversation. Hey, I trust their destiny in your great writing skills. PPS
This story is wonderful!!! I think it is going to very ugly before it gets better. B&T are ment to be together. Thanks G PPS
great update, i love how fast they both became close friends, and i hope soon Tina will be asking: Helena who? btw, it made me want to see the series…can you tell us the name?
These two women are just drawn to one another. I love how they interact they are destind to be great friends and I can see more than that on the horizon. PPS
Pappy Kennard will LOVE Bette! Now we just need to ditch Helena somehow. I agree with Bette’s joke about plane food. Most of it tastes like cardboard.
