    Cure-all, Chapter 10

    CHAPTER 10

It was early morning and the California sun was slowly rising on the ocean. Bette was driving on the coastal highway, almost deserted at this early hour. Carmen sat on the passenger seat. Bette had offered to drop her in L.A. before going down to Newport Beach, but the young latina, fascinated by the tale of Shane’s maritime adventure, had asked Bette if she could join in for the trip.

They had pleasantly chatted along the way, Carmen telling Bette all about her reunion with her half-sister, and how, thanks to Helena, she had been able to come to L.A. and work as a model. She loved her job, which allowed her to travel a lot, but she had a true passion for music and wanted to become a DJ…

Carmen had also mentionned what a great person her sister’s new wife was and how well they were getting along. And how she had felt so sad for her after last night’s phone call fiasco. Bette had suddenly been very attentive. The younger woman told her about the card and Tina’s talk with her grandfather, and how miserable it had left her. Which is probably why she had then drunk to excess. As she’d listened to Carmen, Bette’s heart had ached deeply for Tina, and as unrealistic as the thought was, she wished she had been able to put her arms around her. To hold her tight and whisper conforting words to her ear. Anything to take away the pain from the blonde’s heart.

The car was now quiet. They were approaching Newport Beach, and Bette sighed. She was getting really tired, and she knew that her next opportunity to catch up with sleep wouldn’t happen before the evening, as she really needed to go to work. They were running important tests, and she couldn’t let Tim down.

She looked at the ocean and the various shades of colors reflected by the blazing sun gave it a magnificent glow. At least, they could enjoy a spectacular view… As she let the romantic setting relax her, she tried to gather her thoughts and mentally sum up her main tasks for the day ahead as well as the various cell tests to be done.

But it wasn’t stem cells nor test tubes that appeared in her mind’s eye. What she saw was the most beautiful hazel eyes and that amazing smile that made Bette weak in the knees… A sublime young bride listening to her, attentive, as they walked in the cool of the night, lulled by the soft notes of an enchanting tango… Bette let herself revel in the thought for a while, until she spotted the road sign indicating her exit.

    1. I’m so excited you posted…yea!! What a wonderful way you had Shane and Carmen meet. I guess Bette and Shane fell in love with their soul mates in a matter of seconds. pps

    2. Well, at least it didn’t take Bette and Tina 525 600 minutes apparently… ( wink ). So anyway, it seems Bette’s not too fond of boats herself, huh ?… What a chicken ! But she’s so cute and funny ! Very very nice, albeit short, chapter, K. Truth is Noresistance is absolutely right, it’s not so much the fact that the chapters are brief, it’s the fact that we’re always left wanting much much more. I guess that’s what doctors refer to as ” an addiction ” or in this specific case as the first symptoms of Tibette deprivation. LOL ! Thank you, K. In fact, you must know that my personal doctor prescribed me Tibetthadone in heavy doses lately et tout oubli/entorse dans mon calendrier de prise de médicaments pourrait sans doute m’être fatal…

    3. “Bette smiled softly. How much time does one need to fall in love? How many minutes? How many seconds?…”SOOOO sweet Kword. Can’t wait for you to with this incredibly romantic story. Thanks for posting.

    4. Maybe Carmen will be of some help with Bette and Tina. She seems to know her half-sister well enough to know that Tina would be much happier with Bette.

    5. I just found this story and absolutely adore it!!! The storyline is original and strong…your writing is engaging and very strong…and I am excited about the next chapter!! Thanks!!
