    Complications, Chapter 25 Prt. B

Bette’s footsteps were muffled by the rough sand beneath her feet as she walked alongside Tina down a busy beach. People were everywhere. Swimming, playing volleyball, building sand castles.

“Are there always so many people?” Bette laughed, looking around.

“On a nice day like this, it’s hard not to go to the beach.” Tina replied, grinning.

“Hey.” A voice called from behind them. “Tina!”

Tina turned around, jaw dropping when she saw the man facing her.

“Hey, Tina.” The man said, grinning happily at the blonde. “What’re you doing back here? I thought you moved up to LA with Eric.” The way he said “Eric” spelled out his dislike for the man.

    “I did. Then I left him…”

“I thought you were going to be together forever.”

    “We were…”

    “Until…”

“Until I met the person I actually love, not have a major crush on.”

“Please be me, please be me.”

“Nope. It’s… Well, it’s Bette.” Tina pointed to the angry woman to her right.

    “Oh. You’re gay?”

    “Uh, I guess.”

“I guess I’ll be going then.”

“No, Henry, wait! Don’t be like this. Please.”

“How do you want me to be, Tina? I find out you’re a lesbian and you want me to act like everything’s okay?”

    “They should be.”

    “Fuck you.”

    “No, fuck you, Henry.”

Henry scoffed, turning around and walking down the beach.

“Nervous?” Angus finally asked when Kit fidgeted for the thousandth time.

“Huh? Oh. I guess a little. I mean, we’re almost there, aren’t we?”

“Kit. Hon. We haven’t even taken off yet.”

    “Oh.”

“Just calm down, baby. Everything’s gonna be okay. The plane’ll be fine, my parents will love you. It’ll be an amazing weekend.”

“I hope you’re right, Mangus.” Kit sighed, leaning back in her seat.

    The night before

“It’s not my fault. She kissed me and I was about to push her off when Howie walked in!”

“Like hell!” Alice yelled across the back of the squad car. Carmen sighed, eyes squeezed shut tightly as she attempted to block out all the background noise. “Besides, you didn’t believe me about Lara not being beaten by Gabby.”
