Coming up for air – part twenty seven
Tina was sitting by the dining room table with a cup of coffee in her hand, waiting for Bette to get out of the shower. She leant back and put her feet up on the chair next to her. With her eyes closed and a gentle smile on her face, her mind and body relaxed. She was aching in all the right placed, her lips still swollen from hours and hours of kissing. And in a minute or two she knew Bette would appear, making her heart skip several beats. She lifted her hand to caress the necklace she was still wearing. Last night, the necklace… the top ten – it was almost more than Tina could take in. That Saturday afternoon was all life was supposed to be.
Bette put on her robe. She didn’t want to waste time getting dressed or drying her hair. So instead she tiptoed on bare feet through the house. Her smile grew wider as she neared Tina. Tina opened her eyes and looked at Bette coming towards her.
“Hi….” Tina smiled.
“My, my… don’t I feel lucky having you here….” Bette said as she leant down and gave Tina tender kiss.
“Mmm, luck has absolutely nothing to do with me being here, baby,” Tina said and pulled Bette onto her lap.
“No?”
“Nope… it’s all about you being your wonderful self….” Tina giggled. She slipped her hand inside Bette’s robe, reveling in the softness of her thigh.
“… my wonderful self, huh? Wow, aren’t you in a good mood this afternoon…” Bette giggled.
“I am…” Tina said and slipped her hand further up Bette’s thigh.
“Why might that be, T?” Bette asked while putting a stray strand of hair behind Tina’s ear.
“It must be the new bedroom working its magic on me…”
“The bedroom… Shoot! I thought I had something to do with your good mood…”
“Baby, don’t you know by now, most of my good moods belong to you…? Last night was unbelievable…”
“You always were a sucker for my lists…” Bette said complacently.
“Is that what you kids call it these days?” Tina smiled, “nnnn, you’re right… your lists rock my world…” Tina laughed and squeezed the left cheek of Bette’s behind.
“When will I get my list?” Bette asked, wiggling her eyebrows.
“Whenever you want, baby… I know it by heart… so I don’t need time to prepare,” Tina said and rested her cheek against Bette’s chest.
“Tonight?” Bette asked as she slipped her arms around Tina’s back, holding her tight.
“Sure… I’ll give you my top ten as a bedtime story…” Tina whispered, listening to Bette’s heartbeat.
“Top ten? I thought you said you could put together a top twenty without having to think at all…” Bette chuckled.
“I can… but trust me, Bette… you won’t last through all twenty points on my list…”
“Really? I have great stamina, you know…”
Tina laughed and pulled back a little to look at Bette. “I know you can be a very resilient woman, when you want to be… but this one will get to you… I will push all the right buttons, if you know what I mean…” Tina said, raking her nails down Bette thigh.
“I’ll have to take your word for it… for now anyway…” Bette yielded as a shiver went down her spine.
“I guess so…” Tina smirked, “now sit down and eat your breakfast…”

Though I understand Bette’s concerns, she will find if she just relaxes that it usually dosen’t end up affecting your relationship at all. My God woman, Tina’s gotta enough love to go around. I’ve never experienced any problems with ex’s or current girlfriends in regards to staying in touch and seeing the children from previous relationships. Though, its usually not up for discussion. They both just need to calm down, the weekend must continue, we have to hear Tina’s top 10
I agree that Tina has plenty of love to go around, but would exam why she feels she needs to hold on to Mikey. Is she afraid to get pregnant again for fear of losing another child? They need to discuss this calmly. Great as usual. PPS
Anker, I love your work…I’ve been a long time reader on the website…2004 and counting but I’ve become a silent reader over time but yours has pulled me out of retirement. I just read this chapter and truthfully, I think I may understand Bette’s POV on this one. I don’t think she’s jealous of Mikey at all. In my opinion, I don’t think she’s jealous of the connection between the two but more hurt by the disconnection between themselves. Let me explain;yes Bette loves Tina, but seeing Tina’s love for Mikey just acts to increase the pain Bette feels for the loss of their own child. Maybe Tina’s ability to get her maternal release with Mikey prevents her from fully understanding the silent longing Bette may have to experience the same. I truthfully don’t think Bette wants Tina to stop seeing Mikey but maybe his presence is preventing Tina from really opening up completely to Bette. Maybe Tina is scared to walk that road again? Just my opinion.
Oh, and by walking that road again I mean having another baby…in case I wasn’t clear…:)
Your writing is exceptional. Tina needs to let Bette try to explain. She flies off too quickly. If one thing doesn’t go her way, she flies into anger. Let Bette explain and make Tina really listen. Congrats on your nommie.
Oh man. Well thats just f*cked up. I dont even know what to say about them. I just hope they work it out and soon. Now i’m all sad :( Thanks for the post PPS.
Ah well, I just loooove how spontaneously combustible the Dynamic Dyke Duo are. LOL. I find it amusing because it’s like pulling apart two high-powered magnets and ‘expecting’ them not to clash together when released. LMAO. Surprise surprise…..they always do. I’m glad to see the ‘passionate but irrational’ Bette back in the game, now Tina recognized it and that too is fun to see. So a few possibilities: a) Bette tackles Tina in the park and down onto the grass to make her listen and Tina likes it and they don’t make it home(Tina may get knocked up in this scenario). b) Tina sees things from Bette’s POV and vice versa; and they both get mushy gooey and can’t say enough sorries for being presumptuous, albeit rightly so (and you know how I feel about sappyville). c) Bette shuts down as usual and Tina fumes off her cap and no one does anything productive, pun intended (this scenario, effectively kills the power to the magnets and you have two clunks of metal…yawn). d) Out of nowhere, all hell breaks loose and…(well, I dunno any other logical possibility that would fit here and stating the illogical ones, would be way too much fun…long list and all). I love this story! And it’s fun to see how you drive it. 8) PPS! ….But seriously, what’s with Tina’s attachment to Mikey as a ‘mother’ figure. Especially given the Henry situation? I understand Bette’s point. But then again I am biased. Kids aren’t always cute; just, budding adults trapped in helplessly innocent bodies. Quite scary they are, kids. Oh, where was I? Ah yes. PPS! 8)
Oh god no, please don’t split them up! Please let the weekend continue and just have them work out their issues. They have come too far to throw it away!

Bette is right to be worry but Tina is capable to handle this situation, maybe if they talk this they will understadn each other better, great work

There you are! Yeah, once I start those said rating storylines, though, I might now be able to stop…! I have a few a in the margins of some notebooks, but we’ll see. The Dynamic Dyke Duo! Wow, they can ‘save’ me anyday. ;) Sigh, those girls, always getting themselves into trouble… and almost always over lack of/improper communication. Maybe if someone made them mute for a while? Nah, they’d still find a way to mess things up… you’ll fix it though, I have faith in you. Great post, as always!
Make Tina listen to Bette’s thoughts, she is just shutting her out, not cool. Otherwise this is the same pattern of not communicating.

Yes anker, please fix this right away, because we do want to read Tina’s top 10. I agree that Bette isn’t really jealous of Mikey, she just wants to be able to have a child with Tina that they can share in raising together. Bette needs to clear this up and quick. Well they do have alot of miles to go to get back home, so Bette better start talking and Tina needs to really listen. You know I love this story my friend and I only hope I do get my weekend fix as promised.

Whoa! How to up the drama quotient! When I saw PG, I thought they were just “Coming up for Air.” LOL Didn’t anticipate the ending or the Mikey connection being in play. I can see both viewpoints. It’s difficult to lose the relationship you’ve developed with a child, and I can see Bette’s envy as well. More than that, it’s the old control isssue rearing its ugly head. Anyway, I missed your usual weekend posting, but hey, it’s good we all have real lives, yes? I’ll look forward to your next post. (Don’t forget the second top ten!) Thanks for writing!

You can make it up to me by posting the next chapter with Tina reading Bette her top 10 list, Anker Style!**wink, wink** LOL! Bette needs to get over her jealousy of Mikey. She just sounds ridiculous making that demand of Tina. I would have reacted the same way Tina did. I think I may have even told Dean Porter to go home and make up her own Top 10 list and to call me when she gets to the number on the list where “acting like an ass” shows up. Sheesh…Great Chapter. Tina really needs to give Bette a chance to explain her fears and what she meant in regards to Mickey. They REALLY need to talk, PPS:o)

Oh no, we’ve gone from la douceur délectable to le drame dur for our Dynamic Dyke Duo! I can understand Bette being worried about Tina being to close to Mikey, but there’s enough of Tina’s love to go round. And she has to have faith that they’ll have their own child at some point in the future. Great chapter, as ever, anker. I hope the next is soon, because Bette *has* to make up for what she said.
