Coming up for air – part twenty four

Bette went back into the apartment, taking slow steps. She stopped at the coffee table. The keys were lying on the table. She picked them up and shivered a little when she felt the cold metal against her skin. Maybe this was one of those times when she needed to take a step back and really listen to Tina. Bette had a quick fuse and at times she blew up, only to learn that she had misunderstood. But when Tina gave her the keys it had felt like she was taking away something instead of giving something. Maybe Tina saw it differently.

She went to the bedroom door. She listened for sounds coming from the other side.

Tina had been listening like Bette. She hadn’t heard the front door open and close, so she assumed that Bette was still around somewhere. She got up.

The door hit Bette right in the face, sending her flying backwards to the floor.
“Oh my god… baby, are you okay?” Tina said as she fell to her knees beside Bette.
Bette felt a little groggy. She raised her hand to her forehead where a nice bump was protruding.
    “… yes… I think so…. damn, that hurt…” she moaned.
“Do you wanna try to get up… come to the couch with me…” Tina said helping Bette to her feet. She swayed a little at first so Tina steadied her as they walked to sit down.
Bette rubbed her forehead. “I think it looked worse than it was… I’m fine, Tina…” Bette said.
    “Good… damn, you scared me…”
“… I should know better than to listen at the door, I guess….” Bette said with a little smile.

They sat in silence for a while, not knowing how to move on.
“You didn’t leave….” Tina finally tried.
    “… no…”
    “Why?”
“… I don’t want to leave with you angry at me… or disappointed in me…” Bette sighed.
“What’s going on with you, Bette? Just talk to me… cause right now I have no idea what’s happening,” Tina said.
“You’ll never move back into the house with me, will you?” Bette said, her eyes glazing over again.
    Tina looked perplexed, “I don’t know… probably not… no.”
“I just realized that, when you gave me your keys… it breaks my heart, Tina,” Bette said, trying hard not to lose it again.
“… Bette…. why would you want me to? We lost each other in that house…” Tina said. She took Bette’s hand to calm her down.
“Why? Because I love you. Because I don’t feel at home at the house anymore. Because I miss you to the point of desperation when I’m alone. That’s why!”
“Oh, baby… just because I don’t want to move back into the house, that doesn’t mean we won’t live together again…” Tina said.
    “… it doesn’t?…” Bette sobbed.
“No… but for now I want to live here… I like having my own place again… and it would make me so very happy if you’d drop by unannounced every once in a while… I’d love to daydream about you warming up the bed before I get home… You need a key to be able to sneak in and do that…” Tina smiled.
“So it’s moving back into the house you’re ruling out, not living with me in general?” Bette asked to be completely sure she got it right.
“Yes… I don’t want to make plans to move in together yet, Bette… but maybe down the line, I’ll be ready.”
“Okay,” Bette said and blew her nose.
“Awww, sweetheart…. come here…” Tina said and pulled Bette close to her.

    2. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH That’s what I’ve been waiting for. I love the the slow burn way in which u tell the story and at the same time deal with all the important things like jobs, like futures, like clothes on and off…especially the taking off!!!! and then the climax!!!! aaaaaawwwwwwwwww so sweet….now for the next chapter…yes, like B and T I’m insatiable for more of your story….so in between the important things of your life, more soon pleaszzzzzzzzz

    3. Wow Anker I’m with JB, don’t smoke, but considering getting a pack for Alpha Bette!I luv this story. You are very talented. In what what other ways I ask myself?(wink)lol…….You Rock harder!PPS

    4. Holy cow, that was amazing….and not just the sex but the whole chapter, really amazing!!!! So great to see another post from you, very fast this story has become one of my favourites :o)) Hope you’ve had a great weekend :o))

    5. I placed all liquid forms of refreshments out of the way. But before that I made sure to hydrated myself. So I was kind of prepared for the chapter. It was still very thrust making and HOT. I could see both sides about the keys issue. Glad that it did not put a stop to the evenging’s extra currcicular activities.

    6. I am so glad you found time to post another chapter, I was realy missing this story…Bette and Tina need to work out a few things but communication is key and of course lots of lovin, lol…Looking forward to more anker.

    7. Thankfully for once Bette did not run. Woman, you gotta give Tina some time, you guys did a really good job on each other, and damn its not like she cut you off or anything. They’ll get there in good time. Now I think I’ll go have that cigarette, but you don’t need one.

    8. Well that was certainly worth the wait. I was happy to see that Bette is really trying to change her old habit of running away from things and stayed to talk to Tina. Your words always have a certain effect on me and I now have to go out, but at least I’ll have a big smile on my face thanks to you. I should have known better, but I just couldn’t not read this chapter before I left. Thanks anker and have a great weekend.

    9. I’m glad Bette didn’t leave without talking to Tina about the meaning behind the apartment keys. ( even though she had to take a blow to the head. Very funny! LOL!) I am a huge Tibette fan and this story always makes me smile. You are most definately doing the right thing keeping them together. On a different note, the smokin’ in the shower thing, not working out so great…probably because I don’t smoke! LOL! But your last chapter was so HOT, that I had to take up the nasty habit just to cool off! LMAO! Okay, I’m ready for the REAL payback in the next chapter. Do I need to get another pack of cigarettes, Anker? PPS.

    10. I am so glad Bette didn’t walk out that door. They need to break that cycle of miscommunication followed by running away. I think Tina more than made up for the blow to the head wouldn’t you say ladies? I think she will continue to make it up to Bette ALL NIGHT LONG. I love your writing Anker and I am hoping you post again real soon.

    11. Oh, I’m here for the long haul, anker, for sure. I just sacrifice sleep to write (like I’m doing RIGHT NOW. This is my break). ;) After all, it’s the least I can do to pay you back for your kindness. Oh god, Bette in a convertible…I need a moment. I LOVE Bette’s warm fuzzies at being with Tina again. As for the rest of it, THUD! I’ll BET Tina has skills! One’s that Bette most likely taught her. ;) HOT!

    12. I’m glad Bette didn’t run away. She came to her senses, and hopefully that bump to the head has knocked the rest of the stubbornness out of her. Well, anker, I find I’m running out of ways to describe the hotness in this chapter. No to sssmokin’, that’s too Jim Carrey-esque… I’ve already used a variation of combustible… I can’t use non-English words because my French and Spanish have rusted away to nothing with disuse… See? It’s hot enough that it’s rendered my brain to mush… crikey. More. Soon. Please.

    13. Okay, I guess I understand the need for drama! Realistic way to show the struggle to change and communicate that must take place. In some way, it’s sad that Tina blames the house for bad memories instead of reveling in the good memories they made there. Loved the door move! Good comic reIlief! I’m looking forward to the private party and christening. Post when you can. Thanks for writing!
