James sat down across from Bette. “It sounds like a great opportunity… I’m sticking with my decision, Bette… I’ve already typed up my resignation. I’ll hand it in as soon as my contract with The Department Of Art is signed,” James said.
“Good… I’m glad, James… I think this opportunity will be prolific for the both of us… I’ve scheduled a meeting with Franklin at ten o’clock today… and all the members of the board will receive my letter of resignation by the end of the day. You should call Jeremy Conner at Yale to set a date for signing that contract, James…”
“I’ll do that… shit, I wonder what Franklin will have to say about this…. he’s not going to be happy, Bette…” James said with a frown.
“I hope not. It’s hardly a good thing if your employer is jumping for joy when you resign… but let’s see… after all he’s not exactly a fan of mine… who knows, maybe he’ll be as relieved as I am…” Bette smiled.
“Franklin may be a lot of things but he’s no fool… he knows how The CAC has grown in both size and reputation since you came along…. he’s not going to make this easy on you…” James said.
“Maybe not… either way I have to be here for one month… that is in my contract. So he can make as much trouble as he likes… “ Bette said.
“Okay… I’ll leave you to prepare for your meeting…” James said and got up. Her turned in the door and looked back at his boss. “Thank you, Bette… it means a lot to me that you want to continue our collaboration…”
Bette looked up and smiled at James, “You’re welcome, James… I’m going to need someone I can trust close by… we’re going to face opposition at UCLA too… I’m glad to know you’ll be there…”
James nodded and left Bette alone.
At five past ten James announced Franklin Phillips.
“Bette…. “ Franklin greeted Bette as he entered her office.
“Franklin…” Bette answered in the same chilly tone of voice.
“So is there a problem with the funding…? I was told you had it under control,” Franklin said as he took a look around Bette’s office.
“No, there’s no problem with the funding… the next show is fully funded and planned… we’re ready to open in three weeks… as scheduled,” Bette said.
“Okay… well then, what is this emergency meeting for? We’re both busy people, Bette….”

You have a “comfortable” writing style. Your explanations and dialogue are realistic, interesting an adult. I wish the show would have this pairing again.

on the show some of tibette problems started when bette began working for CAC so i’m glad that part was over…less stress, more love for them
Loved the way you weaved through all the emotions in this post, Anker! Not many people have mentioned the conflicting emotions that Bette must have felt leaving the CAC. Remembering her progress and successes… there had to have been many bittersweet thoughts. Loved that she is taking Robin, I mean James, with her to the University. When B felt a little unsure after Franklin’s threats, how typical that she immediately finds time to call Tina. It was reminiscent of the night she called him out in his driveway. You mentioned somewhere that Bette has learned her lesson…. well, maybe, but how very Bette it was, for her to realize the anniversary at the last minute, and back peddle as quickly as possible to save the day. Best line (IMHO):”I love you…because of all the wonder you bring me…and in spite of all the BS you put me through…” That definitely is love! Hey you…I was beginning to wonder if I was going to have to PM you to get the next chapter. Then, VOILA…part thirty-three appeared on my screen. LOL! It’s must be bittersweet for Bette to turn in her letter of resignation. To take the CAC from nothing and to build it into a thriving business, must make Bette sad to leave her “baby”. CHange can be wonderful and Bette is overdue for a change when it comes to her job. Franklin doesn’t have a classy bone in his miserable body. He should be giving her the accolades she deserves for making the CAC so successful but instead he makes empty threats to intimidate. What an ASS! LOL! The best part of this chapter was when Bette looked at the date on her email and realized it was their anniversary. She was dead tired but went to Tina’s to be with her and to celebrate their love for 9 yrs. That’s what it’s all about Anker…true love. Makes me smile from ear to ear the way you captured the moment. Beautiful. PS.
Bette’s night call was very sexy/romantic! I’m very proud of her.

Sorry about that, I didn’t fell asleep (although I’m really tired today, it’s hard being a year older LOL – it was a great day, thanks) but the phone rang….and BTW; how could I ever fall asleep to your fantastic writing!!! It’s understandable Bette will do her best and shut Franklin up – I just thank god (and I’n not even religious LOL) that this is her last show. By giving in her resignation she has shown that Tina is her top priority… but right now it must be very hard on Tina…..watching history repeat itselt. Great post, I love this story (guess you already knew that)…and loved Bettes plan, phew that was hot!!! Have a great Sunday, talk soon xx
What’s that about the best laid plans…? Oh yeah, that men screw them up. Good to see that doesn’t apply here… ;) I’m glad Bette is closing the book on her time with the CAC, she’s taken it as far as she needs to, and it kept (it’s still keeping! grrr) her away from Tina. It’s time Bette started a new chapter, this time with a co-author, and hopefully they’ll be having a far better ending. Lovely writing, as always. Thanks, anker.
WOW, that was HOT anker. I can see how Tina was thinking about things not changing, but once Bette is gone from the CAC and working at the university things will be totally better. UMMMMMM, that was ummm some incredible adult alone time. That kind of left me speechless. They are so in sync with each other. Their bodies and souls are like an orchestra with each having a turn as the orchestra leader. They are able to tweak all of the passion out of their own playground which is the other’s body. Now if they can only make it through this final show and leave Franklin behind in his in own demise of stupidity.

anker, that was marvelous. I must have forgotten to check the rating though, because, for some reason, the hot steamy ‘Happy Anniversary’ Bette gave Tina caught me off guard. Yeah… I’m a little spacey. Anyway, great as always. Frankly, I’m just relieved Bette came to long enough to not screw up something really important! PPS, my friend. And I’m actually pretty sure the darn pleasure is mine! ;)
