Chapter XXII – Empire State of Mind – Knife’s Edge
Bette also saw one from Dave to tell her he saw a text to Bette’s regular cell from the reception of the gym/bar/social club she was heading towards. Bette had left her cell with Dave several days ago so that he could update the security features in it. He also wanted to plug something in that would monitor possible hacking attempts. Curious about what they could be texting her, Bette called reception of The:Core.
“Yes, Ms. Porter-Kennard, we texted you just to let you know that we received a document package sent by courier addressed to you.”
“When did you get this package? Did you note who it was from?”
“We got it yesterday, actually, but it was mixed in with our own packages. And we do apologize profusely about this mix-up. We only noticed it earlier today…”
“That’s alright. I normally don’t get packages delivered to you anyway,” Bette cut in. “But do you have any record of who sent it?”
“I’m afraid our records don’t say. It was delivered by messenger … and since it’s a messenger service many of our members use, we didn’t notice anything unusual, in that respect.”
“But if you’re concerned about any security aspects to it, please be assured it was screened using standard protocols.”
Bette thanked the woman on the phone, frowning slightly as she ended the call, trying to think of who could be sending her anything in this unusual manner. She ruled out George or anyone else in the merchant bank or George’s holding company. It couldn’t have been Logan, either. And, since she wasn’t engaged in any deals, at the moment, it couldn’t have come from any past or current clients.
As she entered The:Core, she asked the attendant who rose to greet her, handing her a cooling towel at the same time, “Hi, I’m Bette Porter-Kennard, and I was talking to someone earlier about a package…”
“Yes, ma’am… your package is in your locker. And the change of clothes you’d asked your cleaners to drop off is there, too.”
Bette smiled, accepting a cold water bottle from the polite attendant. “Thanks a lot!” she called over her shoulder, as she took a deep breath of the subtly perfumed, pleasantly cool air. She loved coming into this gym, anticipating seeing new art hung in the walls. She paused to check out what they had displayed as she took a swig from the water bottle and wiped her neck and face with the cooling towel.

Well they got Tina mad. I’m glad Bette is letting her find out about the picture. Things are heating up.
Wow! I see a bit of Cagney and Lacy. I am glad Tina is stepping up to help whether Bette likes it or not. As all ways keep them safe.
Nothing can break or tear this couple apart.
They finally pushed to far and Tina helping now is what Bette needs.
Keep them safe please.
Jodie? Scott? Who doctored the photo? More twists and turns. I’m glad Bette is letting Tina deal with this distraction so she can break the code. Keep the girls safe. Thank you for continuing to post this wonderful story. Your efforts and time devoted to this site is very most appreciated.
