Chapter Twelve


Bette still hadnt told the girls of what she was going to do. All she would say was for them to act normal as if nothing and they would see.

When the group was together sometimes with Amy there, no matter how they acted, none of them could get comfy.

Bette had been drinking her coffee watching Tina and Amy across the table. She wasnt paying attention to what was being said from anyone, she could only think about tonight.

Being Valentines in all Alice being the sweet one she got everyone a little something. Not to be outdone by anyone, Shane and Dana as well as Tina and Bette all gave their friends a little something.

When it came for Bette and Tina to exchange, it felt a little weird. The girls could tell that Amy didnt like the fact that they still thought of each other. Being polite they thanked each other and that was when Amy announced she had a special something for Tina. Bette smiling thinking she had nothing on her began to sip her coffee.

Tina, here in front of your friends I just wanted to ask that if you wanted to be my one and only.

With that she pulled out at ring,

Tina will you be my girlfriend?

And all Bette could do was spit her coffee right back out. They all looked at her and she looked at Tina and said sorry.

But when Bette covered her mouth it was then that Tina saw it, Bette was wearing a silver band on her ring finger. That wasnt her ring. Had she been seeing someone else? Wasnt a little quick to start wearing a new ring? Did everyone know but her?

Broken hearted and nowhere left to go but with Amy she said yes.

Bette couldnt take it, this wasnt going well, but she still had hope. She then got up thanked her friends, congratulated Tina and Amy, then excused herself. But before she left the table Alice asked,

Are you coming to the Valentines dance tonight?

I cant.





Everyone was on the dance floor, when Alices phone rang, it was Bette.

Alice wheres Tina?

Shes somewhere here with her.

Listen to me ok Al. Im fixing to be there so whatever you have to do to get Amy away from Tina for a second do it. While you have Amy get Dana to get Tina out of the room. Then Ill take it from there.

What are you going to do, kidnap her?

I need you to be serious Al; Kit knows what to do to. Ok. Got to go, get to work Al.

With that, Alice with the help of Shane convinced Amy to come with them for a second. Then it was Danas turn. Kit called Bette and she walked in. As they left the room Bette entered from the other side. Kit spotted her and that was her cue.

The next song is a dedication, so here is the special song.

Dana heard her cue and as she walked Tina back into the room Tina recognized the music coming from the speaker.

Bette listened to that cd all the time. Then she saw her coming towards her. When she was close enough Bette didnt say anything but just grabbed her hands and led her to the empty dance floor. Bette took Tinas left hand in her right one and put it close to her heart. The other rested on her waist as Tina put hers on Bettes shoulder.

And as Bryan started to sing, Bette looked into Tinas eyes and started to sing while they begun to move.

As the music still played without the words, Bette took the opportunity to start making real amends. But as she did Alice and Shane could no longer keep Amy contained so they were all back in the room. Shane and Alice joined Dana and Kit as they just watched Bette and Tina dance. Amy couldnt do anything but stand there.

Baby Im sorry and I love you and I wanted to do whatever you wanted me to. I just wanted you to be happy even if that wasnt with me.

Tina was about to say something, but Bette put her hand which still held hers, up to her mouth to quiet her as Bette continued to serenade her,

The words stopped once again so Bette continued,

I know I might be too late but I just had to try one more time. Whatever happens though I will always love you and you are and will always be my heart.

She continued to finish the song,

As the last words were sung and before the music could stop Bette said one more I love you and kissed Tina with everything she could ever possess. Tina gave in return and when she did Amy was about to go up there, but Shane and Alice held her back. When the music died down Bette slowly let go of the kiss pulled Tinas hands from her shoulders and stepped out of the embrace. She walked out leaving the ball in Tinas court.

Tina stood there confused and as she walked off the floor touching her lips, Amy came and took her hands to guide her into the chair.


Tina couldnt shake last nights events out of her head. She didnt know what to make of it or of Bette. But as she thought about it, she remembered the feel of Bettes ring as they held hands. That wasnt the ring she had given her, someone elses ring was on her finger. Anger came out of nowhere and she set off to find Bette. It was only one and she knew she would be at work.

Bette was busy on the phone when she heard a knock, then it opened and there was Tina.

I have to call you back. Bye.

She stood up and walked from behind her desk. Before she could say anything Tina reached up and tried to hit her once again but Bette stepped back before she could.

Tina regaining her balance,

You, how could you, telling me all this stuff, when I was just doing fine with out you. Was it because she gave me this ring huh?

T, wait, please let me explain.

No more Bette, we were doing fine as friends why did you go and ruin it huh. And what about your ring?

T, its not what you think.

I dont know what to think anymore. Just dont Bette, just please let Amy and I be, ok.

Bette knowing she wouldnt hear her out just agreed with her wishes,

Fine Tina I wish you the best.

And she was out of her office. Tina getting lost again, just sat there and cried. After a few minutes she collected herself and returned home.

Bette had called the girls and over dinner they tried to help dry their friends tears.
