    Bette — Plan B; pt. 54

“C’mon, Jess.” I opened the car door on her side and she stumbled out, following me up the porch to the house.

After unlocking the door, I put a hand on her shoulder to help guide her in, but she shrugged it off. I guess she’s waking up.

Into the house and we’ve got the stomping followed, very predictably, by the door slamming.

    And I’ve had enough.

I knocked once. “Jess, I’m coming in.”

She was sitting on the bed, hugging a pillow. Face set. “This is my room.”

“It is your room, but I know how your mother feels about slamming doors.”

“Well my mother,” she drew out the last word, “isn’t here.”

“Well, little girl, I am here. And while I’m here, you will show me the respect you would show your mother.”

The jaw clenched tighter, but Jess had good sense to keep it closed.

I moved closer and sat on the edge of the bed, near the foot. “Jess, please. I want us to get to know each other.”

    The look continued.

“Whatever you might think of me, please know that I am here for you.”

No response. Okay, let’s not make this easy.

“I know you were trying to help with Jeri”

    “We didn’t need you!”

    It’s a response.

“Jess, I know you want to help your friend.”

“I was helping her. I would have helped her. Now” Jess buried her face in the pillow.

“She’s okay, you know, with her parents. They love her.”

“I was trying to take care of her.” The words were pretty muffled, but I could understand them.

The sound of hurt, however. I guess I can see how this could make Jess feel like she wasn’t trusted. “I know you were. But you didn’t have to. You don’t need to take care of anything that big by yourself, Jess. When something gets overwhelming, you need to find someone to talk to. Your mother will listen. I’ll listen. You’re never alone.”

No words from the pillow, although I believe I caught a sob or two.

“So tomorrow, we’re back on schedule.”

    1. I absolutely love these two together. The dialogue is excellent. They still have alot to talk about, but I feel Jess is finally getting it. Please continue with this awesome story.

    2. P where can I even start??
That was fucking brillant, bette was awesome, I’m glad to see she might be starting to undestand jess’s problems, she needs to start talking to jess and explaining what happen, they are so much alike that they will be able to understand each other. At this point I don’t want tina to come home. lol
So any chance of # 4 today??

    3. OMG… i think i see the light at the end of the tunnel… they are talking… and listening to each other… i love it… thank you …thank you… tina will be so happy… the 2 women in her life just may stay in her life… all together….please continue

    4. OMG Finally that was for sure the best chapter so far..i hope will be better and better.. they started to walk the first step and it seems Jess finally understood that Bette is there for her too… now i can sleep happy thanks Pseud amazing chapter amazing please post real soon :o)

    5. Whew! That was a long time in coming! Jess is just a tad bit on the stubborn side, huh? Wonder where she get’s THAT from?!! HMMMM…. Pseud, you are an extremely gifted writer to have pulled this whole thing off in such a realistic and believable manner. I feel lucky to have access to this story! Thanks!

    6. I was barely breathing while reading this chapter. And the big sigh of relief I let go at the end was heard halfway around the world. Amazing chapter, Pseud! Please post soon. Love your fic.

    7. Alpha Bette taking the bull by the horns! She approached Jess with both authority and compassion. She didn’t try to put words into Jess’ mouth, but let her figure out and verbalize what she was feeling on her own. Their interaction was so perfectly realistic. Finally, they were both honest with each other. Tina’s going to be surprised when she comes home to find two entirely different woman than when she left.

But I have to ask…are they really okay, or is this just the eye of the storm?

Excellent chapter – in pace, content, dialogue and emotion. So happy for the number of wonderful chapters today!

    8. Fifteen years is a long time, almost too long. Has Bette really thought about this? Is she disrupting more than she is uniting? Is there anything to unite? And why didn’t Tina ever really go on with her life with another partner? Fifteen years is a long time to be single.

These are questions that remain to be answered. Jess deserves some answers.

      Thanks!

    9. Excellent. They have finally started to talk. I dunno tho, Jess is believing her straight away? That’s it – all sweetness and light now? HHmmm I’m not sure LOL

    10. That was really well done pseud. Bette did what she had to and acted the role of the adult, which it sounds like she didn’t do when she left them in the first place. Still a lot of story left, and you’re just the person to lead us through it! This was just an excellent chapter. Thanks for writing so much the last little while – nice to get back into the groove of this story
