    Bette — Plan B; pt. 43

    “You want this?”

    “Yes.”

    “You’re totally ready for this.”

“Tee, yes. How many times do I have to say it?”

“Until you show a little fear, I think; that would be good.”

“I’m not afraid.” What a lie. Although I suppose in a way I’m not afraid – I’m terrified.

“You know, if you have other plans, need to return to New York for any reason, anyone, I understand.”

Subtle Tee. Then again, I suppose we haven’t really got down to having a real chat about all that much, my plans, how Tina might feel about these, etc., etc. “I’m here, Tina.”

We still know each other so well. That includes knowing each other’s vulnerabilities and insecurities. It is a thin line between love and hate; one we’ve each treaded far too many times.

“You are available, afternoon and evenings.”

    “Well”

Maybe that was not a fair thing to say, but it did get a reaction from Tina. That reaction was a quick look of panic, but it was a reaction.

“Bette, I told you, she’s on restriction. She can’t be out having fun.”

“Well, suppose I take her somewhere.”

“Somewhere that you need to go?”

No, Tee, Disneyland. That’s how I want her to be punished, by wearing mouse ears and reliving the toddler years that I missed. “Yes. I might have one or two appointments set for the week.”

“And it wouldn’t be a problem to bring her along.”

“Problem? We can get to know each other.” Let’s see how far unreasonably optimistic gets me.

“I don’t want to sound like I’m not grateful”

So I think that she might want to stop talking; then I chide myself for holding onto such petty thoughts.

“Or that I don’t trust you”

    But?

“But you know this will be something totally new for you.”

    “Tina, I can do this.”

Her face still shows her concern. Maybe a little humor? “I once kept a plant alive for three weeks.”

No change. Maybe that was the wrong type of humor to try.

“Okay.” Tina sucked in a deep breath, then let it out slowly. I know she was trying to reassure herself, not me.

    1. So I enjoy your story and it’s fun to read and all that jazz…Two questions. 1.When is Jess gonna grow the hell up and quit acting like a brat?
      2. When are Bette and Tina gonna hit the sheets?
      …Patiently waiting…

    2. pseud I love how you get into each character’s head. The convos are so real…I especially love those with Jess. I’m looking forward to the BnJ sparring…they’re more alike than Jess wants to admit and Bette’s gonna have to ‘mature’ pretty quick to handle her.

    3. Pseud,

Loved this: “We still know each other so well. That includes knowing each other’s vulnerabilities and insecurities. It is a thin line between love and hate; one we’ve each treaded far too many times.”

      Powerful….

Can’t wait for the next section.

    4. Oh, let the games begin! They are either going to end up getting along or killing each other. Tina’s reluctance to be away from her daughter seems real, but maybe there is a little insecurity that she just might lose a little bit of Jess to Bette? Jess and Tina have been the dynamic duo for so long that maybe there is just a little bit of Tina not wanting to let go of that special mother/daughter bond…even if she does want Bette in their lives.

However, with that said – Jess is not going to give herself willingly, I am guessing. I am also finding Bette’s little white lies to herself amusing. I can’t wait for the fun to begin. When does Tina leave?

    5. i bet 100 bucks on Bette…lol..Jess you will bend over for her..lol..and see the great person she is…yeah this is what i wish but its up to you pseud..great chapter as always..thanks

    6. Perfect. The worried parent, nervous ex and typical teenager. Can’t wait for your next post. Hopefully Bette will get a chance to answer some of Jess’s questions.

    7. Jess is in the right corner, Bette is in the left corner, ding dong…how is this going to pan out…its going to get rough.
      Looking forward to next chapter.

    8. I’m still loving this story so much! With a teenager of my own I am feeling a bit sorry for Better right now as I don’t think she has a clue what she is getting herself into! Excellent!
