I followed Bette back into the restaurant and watched as she and Tina went back over to their table. I knelt down in front of Stacy and pulled her into a hug.
“I’m sorry I’m an *****,” I speak into her shoulder holding on to her tightly
“Why did you leave,” she asks me in a whisper
“I wasam scared.”
Stacy pulls back from me as I get back into my chair, “Scared? Of what?”
I glance over at Bette to see her smile encouragingly at me.
“I watched my best friend go through so much,” I explain to Stacy, “She almost died giving birth. I’m scared that that will happen to you and I’ll lose you.”
Stacy took my hands into her own, “You won’t lose me Ben. I’m not going to go anywhere.”
I smile at this, “Promise?”
Stacy smiled the most beautiful smile that I have ever seen, “I promise.”
(Bette)
Looks like Ben made it up to Stacy. Good for him. I turn my attention back to my wife who is gazing at me intently.
“What,” I ask
“You are such an amazing person.”
“Thank you,” I say not really understanding where that came from
“I mean it,” Tina speaks, “You are such an amazing friend and you are a wonderful mother and wife and did I mention you are damn *****?”
I smile at this, “No I don’t think that you did mention that. Do go on though.”
Tina was about to speak when my cell phone vibrates against my back. Taking it out I see that it is Helena. I look to Tina who smiles and nods.
“Hey,” I say
“Oh my god,” I hear Helena exclaim
“What’s the matter,” I ask slightly alarmed
“I can’t believe I just did that.”
“Just did what?”
“Oh my god,” comes from Helena once again
“Helena!”
“What,” she asks as I break the spell she was under
“Tell me what’s going on.”
“I went out on a date with James tonight.”
“Right.”
“We went back to my place for some late night coffee.”

Helena and a james did not see that coming
Sweet! Your Bette has this laissez-faire attitude that I just love. She’s so laid back! Reading her is always a light-hearted experience, even when she’s encountering trouble.

I’m not a fan of the Helena/James concept. I just can’t picture Helena being anything other than gay.
