    Before the Fall – Eight

    Before the Fall

    by: speed_racer

She was set in her ways and too old to morph into someone she had no intention of being. There was something wrong with her. She knew it and accepted it. Because she really couldn’t change things now.

She would have liked to think that she could change and that change wasn’t a bad thing for her, but she couldn’t. She couldn’t be the bigger person. She always had to be right and have the last word.

    Always.

    A Peabody trait no doubt.

    As was cowardice it appeared.

Last night she’d been determined to tell Bette the truth. She had been on the verge of ruining whatever chance she had with Bette. And had been relieved and thankful when Bette had insisted on going to bed. She hadn’t really wanted to tell Bette anything. Because then it would mean whatever they could have had was gone.

She had lived her life with the futile hope that she and Bette would end up together because fate wouldn’t be so cruel.

    How wrong she’d been.

She had consciously accepted to live a lie. And she knew that though it would have bothered her, she still would have done it. Just to be near Bette. Just to see Bette look at her the way she knew Bette could.

She’d seen that look once. The pure look of love from Bette had been enough to gut her then and there. So it made sense that she had yearned to see it again.

Not that look of dismay clouding the love and affection that often colored Bette’s face when she saw Helena. She hadn’t wanted to go back to that, to see Bette be so callous and pretend to be indifferent.

But it wasn’t going to happen. She couldn’t go on like this. Just as she hadn’t been able to handle knowing Bette was in love with her and yet nothing ever changed between them.

It had eaten away at her and this would too.

Unable to sleep she had packed her bags and tried to think of what she was going to say to Bette.

    The truth obviously.

But she still wanted Bette as a friend.

That may not even be possible, but she could always hope.

    1. whoa Bette is really not into Tina…I’ve missed a few chappies so I’ll go back BUT even then I remember Bette wasn’t so much into Tina..intriguing…more soon???

    2. Brilliant update. Jenny is the best! Where has she been all this time?! :D Can’t wait for more, Speedy. Will Bette listen to the rest of the voice messages? Presumably, they’re from her, and I think that lil fact about Helena saving those messages is very telling. Loving this Helena, do post soon and make her happy! Thanks

    3. Even though it’s really complicated, Helena should have told her the truth: that she loves Bette but Bette’s old self was too stubborn to return her feelings. Oh, the drama! My poor heart!

    4. Ok I’m sane now. It has been a LONG while. Did I mention that it was LONG time ago? :D I don’t know how Bette will ever find out that she’s in love wtih Helena, although she’s evidently so. I’m anticipating… Really hoping that she’ll realise soon.
