    Angels Never Came Down 5

    Previously:

”I hope you don’t mind…” Tina made an extra motion
that burrowed her arm underneath Bette’s. “I just need to feel right
    now…”

Bette swallowed as much frustration as she could and
tried to genuinely listen to what Tina was saying. She heard
    loneliness, sadness and vulnerability.

”It’s okay T. You can feel me. You’re still here.
You’re still real.” Bette slowly groped for then found Tina’s hand.
With an encouraging smile met with a tentative one from Tina, Bette
entwined their fingers and gently squeezed.

    ________

Bette let herself out Tina’s front door, feeling
like she’d just left something very important, like her heart, behind.
They’d spent the entire day together, cloistered inside Tina’s home.
They’d had lunch, watched some DVD’s, played Scrabble, and talked. They
talked for hours, laughing and finding themselves in near-tears at
times. Bette remembered every lilt and nuance in Tina’s voice just as
she remembered the slow smile that bloomed at the most unexpected
moments. She caught Tina staring at her more than once, and whenever
she did, Tina’s face would unleash a smile so warm that it literally
    stopped Bette’s breathing.

What’s happening to me? Bette was amazed and
frightened. She had known for several months now that she felt
something more than friendship for Tina. Once or twice, she’s even
called it Love. But the emotion that twisted in her heart seemed so
much stronger than love. It almost seemed like a primitive switch got
turned on inside her and now, Tina was everything she saw.

”Oh God, I’m becoming obsessed with my best friend.”
Bette mumbled as she got into her car. Bette still couldn’t believe it.
How cruel must fate be?! Me. In love. With Tina. Who is straight. And
who needs me to be her friend. Just her friend.

I can’t stand this. I can’t… Bette pulled out of
    Tina’s driveway in a squeal of tires. Maybe Tina’s right… maybe I’m
just horny and I need to find someone, who’s not Tina, to get my mind
    off Tina.

Coming to a decision, Bette turned a left and headed
for the nearest lesbian bar, intending to pick up the first pretty
woman she saw and forgetting Tina’s gentle touch in someone else’s.

    *****

Tina watched Bette peal out of her driveway, a
little puzzled. Why was Bette in such a hurry? Maybe she’s got a date,
a voice drawled in her head. Tina stuck out her bottom lip, suddenly
feeling pissed for some undefinable reason. She went back to the living
area and started picking up Scrabble tiles. She glanced at the board
and burst into a giggle. Before she left and without Tina noticing,
Bette must’ve formed the message that was spelled out by crooked wooden
    chips.

    4. Shit, after reading slipperynipple’s comment, I think I just realized why I never felt comfortable enough around girls to have them as good friends (and this was back before I realized I’m gay). This story always reminds me of that old Vanessa Williams song “Save the Best For Last.”

    5. Awww this is so great – I love your story and your writing….and I’m sure Bette don’t think Tinas boobs are too big LOL. Please post soon – I’m waiting…

    6. Bette, you fool, don’t flop yourself in her boat, flop yourself in her BED! So things seem to be dawning on Tina now. When she wakes up will she open her eyes?

    7. Oh shit here comes the angst “I just got dumped by my boyfriend and I have a lesbian friend who is all warm, supportive and likes to cuddle.” Hmm I wonder what it would be like to be with a woman? Run, Bette run!!!! 7 this story is kicking me in the gut. I hope you have a scenario planned out that’s not going to take me back to my shrink. lol But I love your writing so it will be well worth the visit.

    8. Poor Bette, she’s totally in love with Tina. Tina is wondering about her feelings for Bette, but is she just liking the attention Bette gives her? Or does she actually have feelings for her? That’s the question. Thanks for the update.
