Angels and Mortals: Chapter 18-Like Father, Like Son

Chapter 18- Like Father, Like Son

Alex watched the ball drop through the net, and the crowd go wild. She smiled wide and hustled back to the other end of the court. She smiled, looking up at the scoreboard. UCLA was up against Wayne State 78-49. She watched as the point guard dribbled the ball pas half. Reading the play perfectly, her man tried a v-cut. Alex acted fooled, then saw the guard’s eyes dart over to her player. She coiled all the power and burst outwards, timing the ball, and snatching it out of the air inches from the woman’s hands. She darted up the floor on a fast break and put up an easy lay-up. The Wayne State coach called a time-out and she hustled back to the bench to grab some water.

Coach: You guys are all over them. Alex they’re gonna double you now for sure, so Jen, watch for the open girl alright? Take a breather, you guys have a bit.

Alex looked over at the Wayne State bench. The coach had said something to make everyone smile. It was an evil smile though. She tried to focus her hearing on what he was saying, but with the crowd in here it was nearly impossible. The whistle went which signaled the end of the time-out and UCLA re-took the court. Once the ball was in play, both teams went at it again. After a few minutes, UCLA was on a 10 point streak. Alex smiled after letting one go form the three and it coasted into the net. She looked over at Alice in the stands who had Brodie with her. She smiled and winked at her wife and 4 year old waving son. She soon took up defense but was quickly back on offense, when Jen forced the point guard to turn the ball over. Reaching her offensive position, she waited for the play to be called. Alex looked her two defenders in the eye and smiled. That always got ‘em! Hearing the play, she moved. Before she knew it, the ball was in her hands. With no hesitation, She started into a fade away which cleared her shot. She released the ball, and then felt a weight slam into her, taking her to the ground. She was pinned under one of the Wayne State players who were guarding her. She heard the ball go through the net. The girl looked at her, smiled and threw a punch to her face. Alex recognized the threat and quickly wrestled her way on top. She had the girl pinned down as the ref came over.

    1. Thanks for the quick update! The growing Alice/Alex family seems to be doing well. BAM is a cutie. The whole bruising thing was weird — how quickly they faded. Great chapter. Thanks, IAmAlexM!!
