Angelica (Finally) Has Two Mommies: Chapter Three

SIX WEEKS AFTER THE NEWS BROADCAST

    Bette’s House

The impatient blond rang the doorbell for the third time.

    “Alice!” Helena admonished.

“She didn’t hear us,” Alice insisted.

“”You haven’t given her a chance to get to the door.”

Alice reached again towards the bell, but Helena intervened.

    “Wait.”

A few seconds later, Bette opened the front door to her house.

Alice did not give Bette a chance to speak, “About time.”

She slid past Bette and headed into the living room.

Bette looked back and forth apologetically to Alice’s retreating back and to Helena standing at her doorway, “Sorry.. I was in the yard.”

Alice yelled, “Yeah, yeah, but Helena and I at least know that there’s no time to waste.”

Bette started to reply, but Helena jumped in, telling Bette in a low voice, “Alice is very focused about this, or maybe it’s the three espressos.”

    “Three?”

    “Kit was buying.”

Bette and Helena looked at each other.  The friendly connection was awkward.

    “May I?”  Helena asked.

“Of course, please come in,” Bette replied sheepishly,

Alice was walking around the house with a critical eye, though it was not clear what she was critiquing.  She disappeared down the hall and returned, sticking her head into the living room for a moment and spoke to Helena, “Good.  There are bath toys.”

“I don’t understand why this is necessary,” Bette stated, but Alice and Helena ignored her protest.

Helena also began walking around the house looking for cabinets without locks, uncovered outlets, dangling wires, sharp edges, unstable tables.  When she finished, she smiled at Bette, “Very good childproofing.”

Bette replied, “The service Shane found.”

    “Angelica’s nursery is lovely.”

“Thank you.”  Bette knew about Helena’s nursery for Angelica and acknowledged the conciliatory statement.

Helena pointed to the French doors leading to the garden, “May I?”

    “Certainly.”

As Helena opened the doors, she nodded towards the banging sound coming from somewhere in the house, “You might want to check on Alice.”

As Helena exited, Alice entered, carrying a full toy box.

“Bette, toys are supposed to be scattered around.”

    1. WOW, it is great what everyone did for bette. helena certainly did her penence!! it was great that tina called bette and left a comforting message. hopefully everything will be just fine!!

    2. I thought you portrayed the last chapter very well. The dynamics of Melvin/Kit/Bette/David was right on target. I would not have expected David to be all peaches and cream with the situation. The way he reacted was right in line with the way Melvin has raised him. He has a right to his opionions just like the rest of us. He does not have to agree with Bette’s lifestyle. It seems to me that Bette should have already known about David’s position prior to him coming over.

    3. Spumoni,You’re doing a great job w/this story. It’s written realistically and thoughtfully. It’s a serious part of the LW. And IMO, was not handled especially well by IC and her writers. PPS.

    4. What I didn’t understand on the show is, why Bette and/or Kit find out about David’s POV before he spoke when the SW from Hell was in the house. You would think smart folks like that would’ve checked him out before he asked for his POV. Maybe they thought that he would go along w/Bette? But as they say “the devil is in the details.” “Forewarned is forearmed.” It never made sense to me on the show.

    5. jenny is a fervert LOL this was hilarious, i can only imagine all the adults playing with kids toys….and of course i’m hoping for the best for Bette as well…great story

    6. I love this story and the way you are writing it. What a great buch of friends or family as we should call them, coming to the rescue of Bette and baby Angie. Helena did do her penance and comported herself very well. Happy that Tina called Bette and left a warm loving message for Bette that would make her settle down and also hear the love in Tina’s voice. Maybe they can start to heal from this. PPS

    7. What a wonderful story that allows the veiwers to witness the adoption of Angelica. Something that the viewers were not able to see. Can’t wait for the next post.
