All I Have To Give: Chapter 2

Tina walked over to her wife and kissed her softly on the lips.

"You lot are back earlier," Tina said her arms around her wife as Angie walked in reading a letter with a wide grin on her face.

                "Are you okay?"

                "Yes, Cam is home."

                "What? Where is he?"

"Having a shower. Don’t pressure him today okay."

                "Okay."

"Mom," AJ said walking into the house with his own letter.

"What son?" Tina said as he looked up.

"I’ve got a letter here, someone is offering me money for my street art canvas."

"Which one?" Bette asked at once.

"Silence." AJ grinned. He had got into street art at school and found he had a talent for it. Silence was made up of black and red paints. It was one that Bette loved.

    "Congrats son," Bette said happily.

"I’m so proud of you," Tina said kissing AJ on the cheek before walking into the kitchen to make Cam’s grilled cheese.

Cameron slowly walked down the stairs and looked round at his family. The madness of it all: Angie sitting on the sofa reading her mail, AJ jumping around and dancing, and Ellie’s laughter coming from the garden. He was definitely happy to be back with his family.

"Hey Cam." Bette said walking over to him.

                "Hi Momma."

                "You okay?"

"Yes, I’m fine, look can we talk later. I don’t want to ruin your birthday?"

"It’s only my party but hey son that’s fine. We will talk later," she said raising her eyebrow.

Cam could tell she was still mad at him and he looked sheepish.

"Your grilled cheese is ready sweetheart," Tina said.

"Thanks mom." Cameron smiled at her then gently placed a kiss on Bette’s cheek before running to the kitchen desperately.

Bette’s surprise from the affection was quickly discarded with sadness as she saw Cam devour the sandwiches as if he hadn’t eaten in days.

                "Err Mom?" Angie said.

"Yes baby?" Tina said leaving Cam in the kitchen.

                "I got into Yale."

"What?" Bette said snapping out of her thoughts.

"I.GOT.INTO.YALE!" Angie cried suddenly jumping onto the sofa. Tina ran over to her and joined her while screaming like a teenager. Bette couldn’t believe it, her 52 year old wife and 18 year old daughter were jumping on the sofa. She couldn’t help but laugh.

"My daughter is going to Yale. Oh my God." Bette said laughing.

Ellie ran in closely followed by Benji.

"Why is Mommy jumping on the sofa?" Ellie asked.

"Angie has got into a great university," Cameron said from the kitchen.

Ellie seeing her brother for the first time in two weeks ran to him yelling, "Cammie you’re home!"

"I saw my mommies jumping on the couch once," Benji said, "but they were laying down."

Tina and Angie froze in their spots then Bette burst out in laughter.

"Hmm," AJ said teasingly, "I thought we weren’t allowed to jump on the sofa."

"Today we will let them off," Bette grinned. Bette watched her wife, who was so happy. She loved seeing Tina this happy: all four children were back in the house and  now Angie had got into Yale.

"What are you studying Angie?" AJ asked.

"History." Angie grinned. "I’ll be majoring in History with a minor in Art History."

                "Brilliant."

"Let’s get this party started," Tina said laughing as the family all went out to the pool, "our guests should be arriving soon."

    1. A little touch of tough love can go a long way with some teenagers. Seems like Cam received an early education about how fortunate he really is in life. Thanks for the posting. Hopefully Bette will go a little easier on him and they will have a good conversation when the time comes.

    2. I hope Cam learned a lesson while he was out in the real world and that he and Bette can have a productive conversation now that he is home. Also, hope Bette learned a lesson too!
