After The Scene: a Bette/Tina Vignette

The blender shut off. A cabinet door banged. Some softer sounds, then Tina’s footsteps came back down the hall, angrily ringing on the hardwood floors. Hurricane Tina stormed back in the room and up to Bette, carrying a zip lock bag of crushed ice and a towel.

“Here. Put this on that bruise, or it’ll swell,” Tina said brusquely. She moved over to the window seat and began to take off her boots.

Bette looked down at the towel and the ice bag in her hands. Her eyes began to tear with gratitude. It was going to be okay. As angry as she was, Tina still loved her. She still cared. She swallowed hard, and blinked back the tears. Clearing her throat, she said, “Thanks, T.” As she began to wrap the ice bag in the towel and apply it to her face, she fumbled for the words to make things right. “I don’t deserve this and I really appreciate….”

Her voice trailed off as she realized the soft sounds that she heard were Tina getting dressed to go out. She watched, stunned, as Tina grabbed a bag and started stuffing clothes into it.

Bette leapt to her feet. “T, what are you doing?”

“Candace must have really fucked your brains out, Bette. You’ve never been stupid before.”

        “Now just a damn….”

“I’m leaving you, what does it look like?”

        “Leaving! But….”

“You didn’t think I was going to stay with you, did you? After what you did? You obviously don’t need me. Run along to your new girl, and leave me the fuck alone!”

“Tina, I swear, she meant nothing to me! It was just…a compulsion! I couldn’t help myself.”

“You couldn’t help yourself? YOU? Little miss self-control?”

Bette licked her lips nervously. “Please, Tina, let me explain.”

“Save your explanations, Bette, for someone who cares. I don’t want to hear them.” Tina slammed a drawer shut.

        “Tina, I promise….”

Tina whirled around on Bette. “Don’t you dare promise. Don’t you dare fuck her one minute then turn around and make promises to me.” Tina began to fumble with her ring. “When you were fucking me just now, were you thinking of her? Were you wishing it was her you were fucking?

    1. damn seriously i wish we saw this on the show “Candace must have really fucked your brains out, Bette. You’ve never been stupid before.” and Bette grew increasingly desperate as she realized how completely Tina’s trust in her was broken. these had my eyeballs pop out my head!! waitin for ur next

    2. Thank you for this story, I hope you’ll finish those other stories you’re talking about, I love how you write. The Scene was so perfect in its angst, anger, disappointment, love, the only other scene that can be compared to it in my eyes is the OMFG scene, both are so emotional and as I said perfect, though they are each other’s opposites. Forgive me, but I’ll continue to babble… the S3 Tina is said to be unredeemable “coz of what she’s done to Bette”, but what Bette did to Tina was way worse… At least, that’s how I see it. The shit that is between them now started when Bette let Candace touch her. Unlike about 99% of TiBetters, I’m not taking sides when it comes to these two people, I certainly don’t hate Tina for S3 and I obviously don’t hate Bette either… its their mutual fault and I wish people stopped blaming Tina for everything… See, your story is so great that it made me write a friggin’ essay here, please finish your other stories, will be glad to read them.

    3. After living on pooh sandwiches, poor writing, behavior changes with no explanation, and killing off a major character for no reason, season 1 looks good. Reminds me that I used to like the show and thought it would only get better. Your take on this scene is excellent. I encourage you to continue and look forward to reading your other stories as well.

    4. Where have you been hiding all this time? There are always huge chunks missing from the show. You captured the characters perfectly. Please continue writing.

    5. Great chapter! I am wondering why when Tina told Bette to think things clear, Bette did manage that; while when Bette wanted Tina to figure things out, she just avoided and jumped directly to someone’s arms?

    6. it was intense, tina was mad as hell wanting explanations from bette but not letting her speak..but at least it explains the words that bette told her at the planet…i love to revisit season 1 and 2 now because season 3 just drained me with all the drama

    7. Thanks for getting up the courage to post this–it is wonderful. I love your dialogue. I hope that this is just the tart of many postings. There is always room for quality!

    8. I’ll take a very bad Helena,in S1=2 to a terrible Tina in S3. I can still feel the heartache and pain from that . Tina was mad but not so hurtful and wicked.and we Had no Henry. Thanks
