A Walk on the Wild Side – Chapter 14

Bette watched in complete fascination as Tina opened the developer tank housing her first roll of film.  She placed it under the water tap, letting the water flow freely through the film she had just developed. Bette watched the water gurgle and bubble as it reached the lid of the tank before gushing out over the sides, eventually swirling around the plug hole, before disappearing into the darkness.

“So what now?” Bette asked, noting the tightening of Tina’s shoulders.

“Well, we need to keep it under the water for 5 more minutes, Tina replies, and then I just need to add a drop of this wetting agent and we are done. All I need to do is hang it up to dry”.

“Will you be ok T?” Bette asked, Concern etching her features.

“what do you mean? Tina said, staring blankly at her lover.

“Well, you know, if they are not what you hoped they would be” Bette clarified sweeping her delicate hand toward the film being washed so thoroughly under the fast flowing water.

Tina sighed deeply. “You know, all the way through this, I have stood here wondering that very question.” Tina looked up at Bette. “As long as I live I will carry around the reminder of what happened that day”. Tina paused to breathe deeply before articulating her answer.

Will I be ok? She wondered. I obsessed over capturing these pictures for so long, will I be able to cope if they are not what I expected, If I cannot paint the picture I have dreamed of for so long?

Tina looked over at Bette, noting the concern etched on her face, her body held tense in response to Tina’s pause.

Tina gazed at Bette tenderly as she realised, that yes, everything was ok, everything would always be ok, as long as the stunning brunette was right there by her side.

She took Bette’s hand in her own, and rubbing her thumb gently across her wrist, nodded yes vigorously.

“Bette”, she began. “If these pictures are not what I want them to be, then of course I will be disappointed, but it won’t be the end of the world.” Tina smiled into her lovers eyes. “It’s ok baby. “I’m ok”.

    1. AMAZING!!!! Another AWESOME chapter ….as always can’t wait for you to put the next one out there for us… You must have posted this in the weeeee hours of the morning. ;-) So thank you and looking forward to the next installment!!!!

    2. WTF what do you mean I’m not special???
Dude whats up with that?? lmao
humm a tour guide shit, now I will really have to do a good job.
It’s nice to see there was only good pic’s, can’t have any of the lions mouth, with those huge fangs.

    3. Gorgeous, superb, divine. Sometimes, like today, I have to literally tell my eyes to slow down, because I get so excited about reading the next word, the next sentence, that I try to rush through the story. Of course, the good part of that, is that I get to go back and read it again…just in case I missed anything the first time! Oh, and by the way, I was also a tour guide. Does that get me any points? Thank you for another wonderful moment in these two women’s lives.

    4. You have such a way with words. I loved how you likened the cubs wrestling to you walking around in your mother’s shoes as a child. That was such an easy connection to make when made that reference.

Tina was so set on being disappointed. She was brave in what she thought was defeat. Nice to see that her attack was not all in vain.

I love those tender moments that make you go all soft inside, like when they crawled into bed with each other. No drama, just a peaceful end to what could easily been heartache.

    5. I didn’t comment on the last chapter but I’m happy where ever you take this story. If you choose not to write the trip in you could always leave it for their future (thats if they are still together). I’m looking forward to read how the photos turned out.

    6. Yay! I’m soo happy that the pictures were everything that Tina hoped they would be. Looks like she’ll have a lot to work with in the future!
