A Thousand Years
CH1
Bette sat on the roof of her school over looking everyone.
She was happy she was finally graduating and that she would finally be old
enough to make her decisions. When her mother Maxine left her father Melvin he
did everything he could so that Maxine was never allowed to see Bette. Bette
always missed her mother it had been five years since she last seen her mother
and she thought her mother had abandoned her until last summer when Bette was
home from boarding school she overheard Melvin talking to one of his friends, ever
since, Bette stopped worshiping and looking up to her father. She couldn’t
believe he was the reason she hadn’t seen her mother in five years.
Bette was now in her senior of boarding school where she’d
been at for the last five years and she now knew that her father was doing it
to keep her away from her mother and maybe from asking questions. The thing is
that Bette believed everything her father had told her about her mother until
last summer. Now all she looked forward to was graduating and moving on with
her life without her father telling her how to live. She decided she would take
control once she graduated.
She sat there a few minutes more thinking about what she
would do with her life once she graduated. She knew Melvin wanted her to get an
Ivy League education and she had been accepted to go to Yale and Harvard but
she knew if she went her father would still have a say in her life since he’d
be the one paying for her education.
“Hey”
Bette wiped her tears away as she heard her friend’s voice
behind her “Hey” she replied in a sad tone still overlooking the grounds of the
school
“I thought I’d find you up here” She walked up next to Bette
and glanced over at her
Bette glanced over at her friend and smiled “Just thinking”
“About what?”
Bette sighed “Just what I’m going to do after I graduate”
Bette gave her friend a smile “What are you doing up here?”
“Just looking for you, making sure you’re ok. You’ve been
gone for a while”
Bette nodded “Shane, how could I let my father poison me
against my mother? She’s probably been looking for me this whole time, it’s
probably why I’m here because he doesn’t want her near me”
