    A Rocky Start (B&T-Beginning) Chapter 2

The Next day at the airport.

Bette arrives at LAX, the day after Alice‘s welcome home party and is fill of culture shock. As she gazes around the airport she realizes how different America is to New Zealand. It seemed as though America is much more developed technology wise, while New Zealand is still in the tree hugging stages, and wanting to preserve the clean and green image they have always held.

After a long while of just looking and listening to her surroundings, she decides to make her way outside, still trying to get use to the weird accents all around her. When Bette was finally out side she hailed a cab and got in, getting the cab driver to put her bags in the back.

Cab driver: So where to? The driver said to Bette in an accent she could hardly understand.

Bette: Ah well I’m actually new here and I was wondering if you could take me to a place that sells cars. Bette replied in her fast, high pitched Kiwi accent.

At first the driver was a bit taken back at how fast the young lady was talking to him and was finding it a bit hard to understand what she had just said.

Bette sees the look of confusion on the mans face and suddenly remembered what one of her friends back home told her about how Americans find it hard to understand New Zealand accent because we talk way to fast for them. so Bette repeats her last statement but at a slower pace.

Bette: I’m actually.. new here.. and I.. was wondering.. if you… could take.. me to.. a place.. that sells.. cars. Bette replies, trying not to think about having to talk at this speed for the rest of her stay in America, cause its total torture.

Cab Driver: ohhhh geez for a minute there I thought you where speaking total gibberish. Anyway, sure I know heaps of places around here to get a fine looking automobile, it just depends on you price range. The driver replied, happy to be able to help out the beauty that was sitting in the back seat.

Bette: Awesome, well I’m looking in the price range of $50,000 to $150,000.  Bette replied, remembering to keep talking at a slow pace.

Cab Driver: okay I know just the place to go.

One hour later Bette was driving along in her new blue SAAB down Hollywood boulevard with her roof down and wind blowing in her hair just like in the movies. All her life she had wanted to do that, but know she was finding it a bit cheesy so she decided to head for her new home in west Hollywood.

Just as Bette was turning around she accidentally  cut in front  of a red BMW. The driver of the BMW quickly dodged the Blue SAAB  but ended up slamming into a ditch on the other side of the road. Bette was in deep shock at what just happened and didn’t realize the blonde woman getting out of the damaged BMW with a look of rage on her face. The blonde quickly made her way over to Bette’s car and knocked on the window fiercely, and screaming:

Blonde lady: What the fuck do you think you where doing, you better have insurance or my foot will end right up your back side. The blonde replied still in a fit of fury.

    1. Yes please continue! And hey don’t worry about taking a breather to regain your confidence. Hell I don’t even have the confidence yet to post 1 line. lol If Bette started to think the wind blowing through her hair was cheesy, she’d think I was insane for driving with the window rolled down all the time until it’s either painfully hot or painfully cold outside.

    2. Yes please continue. Bette needs to remember to drive on the right side of the road. Haha I don’t think we talk fast but I remember a while back an American Uni did a study and found out of Kiwis, Aussies, English and Americans we were the fastest talkers LOL.

    3. Wow! That was short! LOL I was just starting to visualize the scene, and it ended!! Good start, looking forward to your next chapter. It will be fun to see the U.S. through Bette’s eyes.
