    A Deeper Song, post 17

“Can you excuse us for a little while?”  Bette asked her friends. “I’d like to talk with Theresa for a few minutes alone.”

“Are you sure?” Shane asked her concern reflected on all the faces around her.

                “I’m sure.”

“Ok. We are near.” Shane told her as she and the others moved away.

Bette looked at the caramel skinned beauty that Rosanna called soul mate.  She still wore her hair twisted and the locks fell where they would to her shoulders.  Her deep warm brown eyes held Bette’s.

“Did you mean what you said earlier?” Bette asked needing the reassurance that this woman offered her.

“Every word.” Theresa said without hesitation. “You gave her so much.  I am happy that she knew the love you gave her. My only regret is that I could not give her what she needed when she needed it.”

                “She loved you.”

“I know.  She was my world.  We fell in love at first sight as corny as that sounds.  I looked across the room one day at a workshop she was leading and our eyes met.  I was disoriented looking into those blue, blue eyes. I was responding to some point she had made and it was as if I was standing outside myself.  One part of me continued to speak and another part of me was thinking what the fuck is going on.  I didn’t know this woman and yet I knew I knew her from the beginning of time.  My body flushed and I had the most powerful reaction.  She just held my eyes and smiled like she read every thought and it pleased her. I will never forget that moment.”

“She talked of it as well.” Bette confirmed.

“She did?”  Theresa was surprised. “I thought that once she found you she forgot all about me.”

“Hardly” Bette laughed. “She told me that you were her soul-mate but that it just couldn’t happen for the two of you this life-time.”

Theresa made no attempt to stop the tears that flowed unchecked down her face. “I hurt her so much. I look back and ask myself why? Why did I wait so long and take her love for granted.  In my heart I just felt that she would always be there.  She could no more live without me than I could live without her for any extended period of time. I never counted on you.”

    1. kelika, what a great chpater having Therese and Bette talk about Ro….and so glad that Therese told Bette it was not her fault. and hey what happened to Bette wanting to meet Tina and tell her something,,LOL,,,still waiting!! Anyway, loved this chapter can’t wait for more.

    2. What a lovely tribute. I really appreciate your refusal to diminish how important Rosanna was to Bette even as Bette and Tina move toward their inevitable reunion.

    3. I’m glad she had someone to talk to about that. It has been a rough time for Bette, so for her to have someone to share that with, who knew Ro the way she did, is probably the best thing that could happen. PPS

    4. AT first I was like “WHAT!!!” at when these two decided to talk to each other. But then realized that they were the perfect and only person for both of them to talk to about the love they shared with RO.
