Parts of 215…..

Bette stopped at the beach parking lot. But it wasn’t a public beach, it looked secluded and private.
“Are we allowed to be here?” Julia asks.
“Yeah, I know the owner. Don’t worry, come on.” Bette says and starts walking down the beach. Julia follows. After about 5 minutes walk, Bette turns right and walks over to a rock, she jumps on it and motion for Julia to do the same.
“I used to come here during Tina’s pregnancy. I was so scared because I wasn’t biologically connected to them. That’s what you’re feeling, isn’t it?” Bette asks.
“Yeah, mostly… It’s just… Jessie is changing so much, I see it every day. And sometimes she seems so distant and like she doesn’t care.” Julia says.
“I know… Jessie is changing, she’s maturing, she’s becoming more of a woman. Tina was older when the twins were born, but I saw the maturing in her too. At first I was scared, that she somehow would mature beyond me in some way, but then… I just got proud, I was so proud to be hers. Proud that she was carrying our babies…” Bette says and smiles as she remembers.
“I am proud, proud of her, but still…” Julia says but is interrupted by Bette.
“Honey, you got the daddy blues… You’re scared… scared that you won’t be enough, that you can’t provide for your family.” Bette says and put her arm around Julia. “It’s a scary feeling, I know. But you’ll get passed it. You love each other, and you both love that little being that’s growing inside of Jessie. But honey, don’t ever stop talking to each other. This situation… it’s important that you’re talking. Jessie only knows and feels what’s going on with her, not you. You have to tell her that. Okay?” Bette says.
“Yes. I guess I am scared… That this little being will be dependable of me. It’s life is in my hands. I don’t want to fail him or her.” Julia says.
“You won’t fail. You’ll be a great mother to that child.” Bette says and pulls her closer into a hug.
“I hope so.” Julia replies and leans her head down on Bette’s shoulder.
“I will let you borrow this place. It’s a good place to be at when life gets claustrophobic. It’ll be our secret place.” Bette says and chuckles.
“Yeah… Thank you mom, for this.” Julia says.
“You don’t have to thank me for this. I’m glad to help. I’ve missed out on so much in your life. I’m glad I’m a part of this.” Bette says and smiles.
“I’m glad too.” Julia says.
“Come on, let’s get back. Don’t want our ladies to worry, do we?” Bette says and jumps off the rock.
“No.” Julia replies and follows.
They drive straight back to the house and walks inside. Tina and Jessie are seated by the dining table. Bette takes a seat next to Tina and Julia takes a seat next to Jessie. They smile nervously at each other.
“I agreed to have dinner here, is that okay?” Jessie asks, looking at Julia.
“Sure… Can I talk to you for a second?” Julia asks Jessie.
“Yeah.” Jessie replies and stands up, following Julia outside.
Tina and Bette are left alone. Andrea is on Tina’s lap.
“How did it go?” Tina asks.
“I think it went well. After all, I know what she’s going through. I had a lot of the same feelings as Julia has, when you were pregnant with the twins.” Bette says.
“Yeah, I know. Jessie feels Julia pulling away.” Tina says.
“They seem to work through it now.” Bette says.
“Yeah.” Tina replies.¨
Out by the pool Julia and Jessie were sitting on the lounge chairs.
“I’m sorry Jessie, for the way I’ve been acting lately.” Julia says and takes Jessie’s hands in hers. “I love you, more than anything, but this pregnancy has kind of changed things a little. Mom told me that I have the daddy blues.” Julia says and smiles.
“The daddy blues huh?” Jessie replies with a grin.
“Yeah, but Jessie, you have to know that I want this. I’m not having second thoughts or anything. Mom put everything into perspective for me tonight.” Julia says.
“I felt you slipping away slowly. I’m relieved to hear that you’re with me. Because I can’t do this without you.” Jessie says and smiles.
“I don’t want that either. We’re in this together. I love you Jessie, more than life itself. And this baby will have the best parents ever.” Julia says and chuckles.
“Promise me that next time, if there is a next time, that you will talk to me, share all your feelings with me? I’ll do the same.” Jessie says.
“I promise.” Julia says and leans in so their foreheads touches. “I love you.” She adds.
“I love you too.” Jessie says and kisses her partner softly.
“Come on, let’s get inside.” Julia says and stands up and reaches out her hand to Jessie. They walk hand in hand inside.
Bette and Tina are seated at the kitchen table small talking and cleaning veggies. Andrea is now in Bette’s lap.
“Sissy.” Andrea calls out and tries to get over to Julia.
“Oh come here, sweetie.” Julia says and stands up and takes Andrea from Bette.
“Thank you, for talking to us.” Jessie says and looks at Tina, then Bette.
“No need to thank us. We’ve been through it, we know that feelings and emotions are all over the place. Just talk to each other, that’s the best advice.” Bette says and smiles at them.
“Yeah, we will from now on.” Jessie replies.
