Chapter 2: “Hmmm…I wonder is she thinking of me?”
I pulled up to my decorated house…wow…she did all this…I retrieve the bags and get out of the car…I close the door with my foot and walk up the stairs and into my house…when I approached the door Dana came out the house…she said…
“hey buddy…Merry Christmas”
she hugs me tight and I hug her back and she says…
“hey…so…what are you doing home?”
I look at her like she is crazy…excuse me…I say…
“Dana…I live here remember”
I attempt to go inside and she steps in front of me…I politely asked…
“excuse me…it’s cold out here..I wanna go inside”
Dana says…
“I’m can’t let you do that”
I drop the bags to the ground and put my hands on my hip and said…
“and why not?”
before she could respond the front door opened and Shane peeked out and said
“hey Bette…Dana we’re ready”
she turns back to me and says…
“come in…”
I shake my head and grab my bags and suddenly Alice came to the door with a blind fold…she said…
“Bette…wait….put this on”
I look around at all three women…they have a smile so wide…Dana and Shane take my bags away from me while I put the blind fold on…I adjust it just right…Alice said…
“are you ready?”
I say..
“yes…”
The three women escorted me inside…the smell of pine tickled my nose hairs…I smile with delight written all over my face…they place me in the middle of the livingroom and Alice says…
“on the count of three ready…one…two…three”
Alice pulls the blind fold off and I scream
“OH MY GOD…YOU DID THIS?”
Alice, Dana, and Shane form a train linking arms together…Alice says…
“no..we all did it”
I turned and hugged each and everyone of them and smiled with happiness…I walk over and examine the 8 foot tree…I smile and think of the woman from the department store from earlier…I wish she were here to see this…right about now we could all be sitting around the tree telling jokes and drinking egg nog with a bit of rum in it…my thoughts were shattered when Alice screams….
“WHOSE IN THE MOOD FOR HOT COCOA?”
Dana and Shane follow Alice into the kitchen and she prepares the drinks…I turn back to the tree…every since I was a child for some reason I was fascinated with trees, the lights, the ornaments, and last but no least…the candy canes…come to think of it…that’s what they forgot…it’s okay…I’ll buy some tomorrow…
