A Christmas Carol – Porter Style Ch 5
Chapter 5
As I continue to fall, desperately I try to grab onto something…….anything. My arms flail wildly as I reach out to slow my progress. I soon realize there is nothing to grab onto. I start to tumble in the air head over heels, unable to stop. Still I try….I continue to try……
I call out “help me…….please help….somebody stop me from falling …please”
It is then that I realize that I have stopped falling.
I feel a warmth fall across my face. The sun. It is morning and the sun is shining through the window. Slowly I open my eyes. I am in familiar surroundings. It is my bedroom, and I am lying in my bed all tangled up in the sheets.
Looking around I call out to the cleaning lady. “Hey…..where did you go? Mrs. Smith? Where are you?”
No answer. I am clearly alone. Now I am really confused. Did last night actually happen or was it just a really bad dream? No it couldn’t have been a dream….it was too real. But wait……the flashes of light, the spinning, the travels back in time, then to the future …… yeah it had to be a dream ……. my brain kicks in and I am finally convinced that it was just a dream. Or should I say a nightmare.
Just then I hear my cell phone ring. Picking it up from the night table I see that it is Alice. Do I really want to be tortured this morning? It continues to ring. I could let it go to voice mail, but I am pretty sure that she will just keep calling. I might as well get this over and done with.
“Hello Alice.”
The ranting starts, but it is not what I expect to hear. “Porter….you should have been there last night. You wouldn’t believe what happened. Jack Coleman…..well I have to tell you Bette the man is a Saint…..simply a Saint I tell you. You should have seen what he did. It was amazing……absolutely amazing. He and Cynthia…..they have got to be the most unbelievable people I have ever met.”
Finally she stops to take a breath and I get a chance to say something.
“Aren’t you going to yell? Chastise me for being a horrible friend? Blame me for having to go alone to the party?”

Tina is still the same sweet person. and Bette will soon become the gentle person that Tina helped mske into. thanks
Well, Bette didn’t waste any time doing something positive now that she has been made to step outside herself. I wonder if she’ll be getting another visit from the cleaning lady tonight…
Such a sweet and heartfelt story.
It’s christmas everybody should be happy and not be alone. Thank you for the post. PPVS
I love this story!!! Pps: )
Aww, this is great. I hope Bette’s intervention can save Angie. Thanks, Taz!
Very nice, and who is Jan? PPS
Excellent! Yes Bette to dinner we go. Can’t wait to see what happens. Thank you for this story.
We definitely need a happy ending to this amazing story – looking forward to your next post.
an intelligent storry by an intelligent writer ;)
Another wonderful chapter, I’ve been reading but not commenting. Love these stories. BTW, who is Jan, a friend, not an intimate companion I hope and who was Tina referring to when she said “I’m glad you will be joining us.” From last chapter, I think, in the dream, Bette saw Tina sitting in a corner holding the teddy bear and crying. What happened with that? I suppose we will see that soon. Little by little Bette is becoming the warm, loving person that we all know and love. Wonderful chapter. Thanks for posting.
Well about time. We get to see some compassion between Bette and Tina. Umm I am looking forward to perhaps seeing them spend some quality time together and who knows – romance may not be dead after all. Great chapter Taz, I look forward to the next one. Love K x
