Bette hurried to the front door, where Alice was steady banging on the door.

"What the hell?" Alice said as Bette swung open the door.

"Jesus Alice." Bette walked back into her office.

"Umm Bette who’s kids are these?" Alice followed her and Parker followed Alice.

    "Mine." Bette said.

"You were only gone a month I don’t think thats long enough to have 3 kids." Alice said.

"Alice I didn’t have them. I inherited them." Bette gave Parker a half smile.

"I’m confused." Alice fell onto the leather sofa. "What are you looking at?" She asked Parker who was watching her very closely.

"You are crazy lady." Parker said. Bette giggled.

"No I’m not." Alice said. Parker walked over to Bette’s desk.

"That lady is crazy." She said.

"That she is." Bette agreed. Alice pouted. "Why don’t you go keep an eye out on your brother and sister while I talk to the crazy lady." Bette said.

"Okay." Parker started to walk out of the room but stopped at the door and looked at Alice.

"What?" Alice threw her hands up. Parker stuck her tongue out at her and ran off. "Okay that one is defiantly related to you."

    "We’ll see." Bette said.

"You gonna tell me what’s going on?" Alice said. Bette closed the office door.

"It turns out that I have another half sister that I knew nothing about, and those are her three orphaned children. According to her will I am her only surviving blood relative." Bette poured herself a drink.

"Wow. What are you going to do?" Alice to took the glass from her and threw it back. Bette took the glass back and poured another drink.

"First a DNA test then who knows. I’m not sure I’m ready for a family or if I’m capable of raising three small children." Bette sat behind her desk.

"What about Kit isn’t she related to them?" Alice asked.

"No. My mother had another child after she left my dad." Bette held up the will. "According to this. I’m their legal guardian. If I am unable or unwilling to care for them they will be placed in the care of the state."

"You can’t do that not if they’re your blood." Alice said.

"BETTE BETTE" Parker burst through the door. "There’s another lady at the door, but this one isn’t crazy."

"I told you I am not crazy." Alice said.

"Alice." Bette stood up. "It’s probably Kit. I haven’t had a chance to call her yet. We were supposed to have dinner."

"Uh Oh. You want me to duck out the back with the kiddies?" Alice asked.

"I’m not going anywhere with the crazy lady." Parker said.

"I said the kiddies not the spawn of satan." Alice said.

    "ALICE." Bette scolded.

"What?" Alice threw her hands up again, clueless.

    1. Mercy me, Bette has a lot on her plate at the moment, maybe Kit will help her with these children and everyone else as well. Bette simply can not let them go to the state, to foster care. Foster care as a system all over this country is a broken system in crisis. So many older children, as these are, stay in the system until they are 18 yrs. of age and then are turned out to fend for themselves, something for which they are not trained or capable of doing. If they are lucky enough to be cared for by sane, loving, non-abusive families, then they have a chance to survive intact and be able to get an education and take care of themselves and not be dependent on the state. I’ll get off my soapbox now. Thanks for posting.

    2. No Bette please don’t let them go under the state care, give them a chance for a bright future. However this is funny between Parker and Alice lol. I can’t stop laughing. I have to stop reading it at work gosh. I hope Bette will adopt them and be their mother with Tina coming in later to complete the family. I can see them having a large family in a future. Thank you for posting. I love the story as I am in a greater mood after reading it. PPVS
