You Only Live Once – Why Not Enjoy It – (Chapter: 8 – Sibling Acceptance)

Ashley smiled inwardly as Spencer leaned into her and nestled her cheek onto her shoulder.  The two continued to dance unaware that they were being eyed from afar.

“What do you think of that Kase?”  Glen asked taking a seat next to Kasey at one of the many round tables in the cemetery.  His eyes were glued to his sister and her new girlfriend.

“What do you mean?”  Kasey wasn’t sure how to respond.

“I mean, what do you think of Ashley and Spencer.  Is it…real or is my little sister just going through some sort of..”  He thought for a few seconds, searching for a particular word.  “Phase?”  He nodded.

“Phase, Glen?  Being gay isn’t a phase.”  Kasey’s tone was a little defensive.  Glen quickly shook his head.  “That’s not what I meant, I’m sorry…”  Kasey waved it off with a grin.  “I guess I’m just, afraid of letting Spencer get so close to someone I know my mother won’t accept.”  He sighed.

“Can I be honest with you?”  She asked leaning in a little closer toward him.  “Of course.”  He responded, following suit and leaning in.

“You have a mind of your own Glen.  Don’t let your mother dictate your life.  If you accept Spencer and Ashley then leave it at that.  Form your own opinions, don’t adopt hers.”  Glen simply nodded and smiled.  “You definitely make sense even for a Dennison.”  He grinned only for a brief moment.  “In all seriousness though, I’ve always liked Ashley.  And if she can make Spencer happy then I’ll be one of the many proud supporters of their relationship.”  And with that he winked and walked off to find a dance partners.

It wasn’t long before 11 o’clock rolled around.  None of them had taken a break from dancing since they had arrived except for Kasey and Kyla.  The night was slowly getting to them.  They decided to check the party out and then head home for a well-deserved rest.

“I’m gonna head out back for a few shots, come find me when you’re ready to leave.”  Aiden walked off toward the house followed by Kyla and Ashley leaving Spencer, Kasey, and Madison to their own devices.
